Annual rust treatment

Well I just went under my 08 for the first time. I pressure washed the thing for a good half hour and let it dry.

I was pleased with how little rust. Mostly at the welds and speckled rust. I used two cans of spray on rust converter. What do you all do when it comes to looking after the belly of our trucks.

 

The mechanic i work with reccomended this stuff called marvel mystery oil to me and i spray my truck about one a month with it, its red oil ment to put in you engine but is liquidy, witch makes it easily sprayable, water runs off and rust stays away. if i do see rust i take a wire brush too it and spray it with some paint then a coat of the oil after its set up and hard. He has been spraying his 96 surburban for 12 or more years and there's hardly any rust at all in his undercarriage. if you plan on getting it walmart is cheapest and will spray out of any sspraybottle.

 

Work at a aircraft repair station so i use Aircraft corrosion preventative.

I just started down the same road. Right now I've been hitting up parts of the truck with Rustoleum rust converter. Once the weather warms up and stays warm I planned on either using the rubberized undercoating or just a black enamel, depending on what the part is. I'm not really sure, I haven't gotten to that step yet.

 

I do not live in or near any states that salt their roads. However, I have lived on or near the beach most of my life. So, even though the rust battle is different, its been an added maintenance item for me as well. What I have always done is spray rust converter at the earlist sight of surface rust if possible, followed up a layer of paint. I am usually under my truck enough to catch spots as they begin, so every now and then I just get under there and spray and hit all the "current spots" or areas. Sometimes its a spot you hit a year or so before that came back. Typically these are hard to reach spots to clean, scrape, etc., or the welds. My trucks have always sold years later looking very clean underneath. No additional oils, etc. But if I was throwing a salty sludge on my under carraige every day, this seems like a good option. I can spot a NE vehicle anyday just be looking underneath.
