A 2002 Black Chevrolet Silverado 1500 single cab 4x4 v6 with 116,000 miles on the body, and about 30,000 on the motor. Got a really good deal on it. Reason for getting something else is that I needed something that could drive all the way to San Antonio this Fall.

    hmmm....good luck :)

I would take a broken toyota over a cheby any day. Why not have just used the money that you bought the cheby with to fix the issues with the tacoma?

Hell I would have saved my money and walked.

Buying a Chevrolet means you wasted money and you'll still end up walking.

    Nothing....but....junk!

Tacoma needs quite a few things but they can be fixed. But after I wrecked and the frame was straightened back out the whole front end doesn't line up which causes a lot of other problems that can't be fixed unless you were to buy a new frame, a-arms, spindles, and other things. Also the engine has an oil leak. No where near enough reliable to drive far. It's to the point that it stressed me out driving to work or letting my girlfriend ride in it because every week there's a new noise coming from somewhere. I'm just going to sell it so someone that needs a good hunting truck or something. Would be a great starter for and SAS conversion, but not for a daily driver...
And honestly I know it's idiotic to argue on a Toyota forum as to why Chevrolet or any other car brand is as good as well, everybody has their own opinions. For us, all Chevy's we've owned have been great to us as well as all our Toyotas.

Everybody is entitled to an opinion, Chevys and Toyotas have always been good to us and reliable, simple as that.

    Agreed.

The reason this one had a new engine put in it was because the 2nd owner let their daughter borrow it, snapped a belt or something (don't exactly remember what the 3rd owner said) and ran it hot blowing the motor. All three owners are one family. The Granddad bought it new, sold it to one of his sons, who sold it to one of their brothers.

Sorry I'm threadjacking! This is supposed to be about what you've done to your tacoma, not about other vehicles....

    You do??

I see a hell of a lot more 80's Toyota pickups and 4 runners, and older tacomas on the road than OLDER chevys or fords.

And anyways, 200k miles doesn't mean shit as a truck that is 4 years old can have 200k. It comes down to how the entire truck holds up to years and years of use.

Toyota wins there every time, period. Look at a 96 Cheby, regardless of mileage, then look at a 96 tacoma.....the tacoma's quality will be obvious in every way.

An even better analogy that I like to use is look at how many 80's 4runners on on the road vs. chevy S10 blazers. I see late 80's runner all the time with 300k plus and still look great inside and out...while the chevy's are literally falling apart.

My dad had an 87 Pickup that he sold in 2001 for $4500 w/ 240k miles. The neighbor at the time had an 87 S10 that he sold for $1500. Both were sold at approximately their appropriate value.

Even now, an old pickup or tacoma goes for big bucks...because they are worth it, resale value reflects the quality of the vehicle. How much is an old S10 worth now....(hint) not much.

I can understand the frustration of having things "just not right" on your vehicle. It's like it's always in your mind and your just waiting for something to happen to it and it eats at you. So I can understand the new purchase haha

At least your happy man!! We all have our likes and dislikes. Good luck with the new ride!

X2 I see way more 81-87 Chevy trucks on the road than 84-88 toyotas

Just saying, those are my favorite trucks though.

Exactly! Haha you hit it right on the spot about how I felt about it, not that I don't still love my tacoma and wish I could keep it... But I do like my new truck and hopefully lasts me at least a 2-5 years until I find my next tacoma ;)
