That one might have been 20"..Might be pushing it though..Big head but really skinny. We both caught around 20 fish together on streamers and I caught one on a dry.

Holy chit, I've done a lot already!!
I started a thread a while back with no luck, so I thought I'd try my chances here. I am heading to Nags Head for the week of Memorial Day. Want to do some surf fishing. Already bought an 8' pole and plan on rigging that with 20lb test with an 80# leader. I only have smaller reels so they won't hold too much line. Which begs the ?, braided or mono. My 7' pole I plan on setting up with 12# and a 40lb leader. May (have to) rent tackle too. I am just looking for as much info b4 i go to be prepared as possible. What more I can purchase b4, what to do IF I land a big one, or a shark for that matter. I have fished more in the last 4-5yrs than i did in the previous 30. I am not a great fisherman, but love to do it and yearn to get better. Hopefully i will have some great pics to add when i get back, but for now......
Anybody with some suggestions?

Thanks! This was back in January. Great weather, hardly any swell, and back home in time for lunch.

i like to gut em scale em then throw the whole fish on the grill. then take some green onions and saute them in some olive oil. once the fish is done the skin peels right off and ill put the green onions on it and just pick the meat off and dip in some salt pepper and lemon juice and eat it with rice. some people like to filet them and fry them up but ive never done that.

yea its about that time of the year they come in. all day they were coming and cutting us off while we were reeling in the lines:mad:

nope two different fish. to me sheepshead taste better than black drum.

    some key differences.

sheepsheads dorsals are very sturdy and spiney. drum not so much.

sheeps tend to be more rounded where the drum are a tad more slender and longer

sheeps have human like teeth. drum do not.

drum sometimes have what look like little wiskers on the bottom jaw. sheeps dont.
