Anyone make the hoodscoop functional?

I was reading the Snorkel thread and how many of the guys utilizing a snorkel have observed mpg improvements. I've also read through countless threads about how useless most CAI's are (URD notwithstanding) and that the stock intake is best. I got to wondering.....

Has anyone been able to make a functional intake system utilizing the factory hoodscoop - ala a gutted version? I'd love to fab up a sealed intake unit that makes use of that fake scoop....Hmmmm

I did a search but most of the threads are 2 years old....was just wondering if any progress/insights had been made since.

nope. The hood scoops are in a negative pressure area, meaning there would be no air going to the scoop even if it was opened up.

if anything, URD's tcai is the closest you'll get to ta ram air unless you're willing to drop some $$ into R&D for it.

 

Ah bummer....oh well. That's pretty much what the other threads said too. What a waste huh?

at least it’s not a pice of plastic stuck on the hood. like this girls mustang my dated for a bit last year. lol

yeah lol. and it was the one from ford that they put on. not the pep boys kind. lol. i looked at it and the edged did not touch in a few spots. i think it was like a ’06 or ‘08 mustang.

 

The most function ive seen out of them is some members opened them up so that they can leave the hood closed to cool their engine bay while wheeling

I'd gut that hood scoop just for the extraction of the heated engine air since it's useless otherwise.

 

It's hilarious that people are judging the Mustang fake hood scoop! A fake hood scoop on a Taco is ok, but not on a Mustang? I'd say it makes more sense on a sporty car than on a damn truck.

 

Shaker sits in top of the carb and not connected to the hood at all.

It don't make sense on either....that's why I was hoping there was some sort of function that one of our crafty members may have discovered to utilize the stock sport hood and make it purposeful outside of aesthetics.

I'd much have preferred some sort of extractor hood that relieved for both heat and high pressure zones at the front of the block and over the tires on my ZR-1.....Chevy felt the need to just show off the S/C. Ah well. Motor City Molds will come out with something in CF I like eventually.
