You mean simply buying the gun doesn't make me a Super Ninja-SEAL badass?!?!?!? But I'm unstoppable on Call of Duty; so I'm good.

Exactly; I don't know why people freak out about training. I know how to reload.. you tap the B button. Sheesh, like it is hard or something.

Actually I really don't feel he is. When you are in a fight or flight situation (which as a LE I'm sure you have trained for and think about) you need the threat removed as quickly and safely as possible. The target he provided is the only one-shot-drop that is used by snipers and dirty work around the world. This target; depending on angle, is an easy kill for even a .22LR as the IDF proved. That said; the apricot shot is not an easy hit on a moving target, much less a target that is coming at you. This is where you go for large-hard-to-miss targets and let the training take over. Drop the hammer on a round aimed for between the nipples and keep going. You are going to hit/trauma the heart, upper lungs, aortic arch, spine and all the core muscles in that region. While snapping the aortic arch will not instantly kill a person; it will cause them to bleed out and drown their heart within ~10 seconds. It is one of those injuries they can't fix if you shoot them in a trauma room.

A lawyer on the other hand; well, I'd just as soon shoot the lawyer and let the bad guy go.

    OME or Toytec Ultimate?

    Fox or King?

    Total Chaos or Camburg?

    1st gen or 2nd gen?

    4x4 or PreRunner?

    "Tastes Great" or "Less Filling?"

And why isn't this thread in the 2nd gen section?

But seriously, any firearm is potentially deadly. The best one for you is the one you most enjoy shooting at the range. :D

Then that would be your gun with your ammo. My favorite gun is like my favorite beer... free and plentiful.

I carried an issue .45 in the Army for several years but I have had several other large-caliber handguns, including a Browning Hi Power 9mm, too. I can't say that I much prefer one over the other. The only pistol I own now is a target .22 because I can hit a can or rabbit with at 25 yards every time.

If I was still in the military I'd just use the issue sidearm. Given the choice though of a defense weapon I'd still pick a shotgun. I once saw a guy who had been shot six times with a .38 walk over and hop up in the back of the ambulance. I've never seen someone who was hit with a shotgun do anything but go right down. Also, remember that as a civilian what you are trying to accomplish is defense -- you should not have the mindset that you are out to kill someone -- your goal is to stop them from attacking you or make them go away.

Funny (not really) what the perception of guns and effects seem on this board.

Reading that article it seems to me that your local police need some more training. Firstly, they knew this guy's history and should have known that showing up en masse would just set him off. Then, not only did an officer shoot an unarmed man when he ran away after being Tazed/shot with rubber bullets, he didn't even hit him center of mass. The local media makes it out like the guy had some sort of terrorist arsenal too. I don't know anyone around here that doesn't have a rifle and three or four shotguns.

    Dude, yer killin me....please stop...please...

Edit: I had a graph of Federal Premium loadings for both and your statement 'Anyone who understands guns/ammunition...' is ridiculous, as proven by the Federal ballistics comparison.

yeah some of the county police here are whacked out of their minds...my brother has a federal civil rights lawsuit filed against them right now for threatening to blow his F'n brains out after they stopped him for running a yellow light(cop even testified to that fact) so the entire stop will illegal for the moment hit turned on the cherries...

he filed a complaint then police showed up at his job and harassed him and got him fired, tried to detain him at walmart and then arrested him at the mall for refusing to give them ID(GA has no stop and ID statute, they charge him with obstruction) a case will be filed over the obstruction as soon as his the charges are dismissed happened in 2008

they murdered this woman and then talked and laughed about how her head exploded... started over a top she might be using drugs she declined to talk to them and drove off never got over about 35mph....

That is like saying you should pick a daily driver based on first what you can drive the best; then on the vehicle. How many people here picked a Tacoma because it was the vehicle you can drive best? I'll say pretty much any BMW or decent sports car will out handle a Tacoma every day of the week. So that logic is flawed from the get go.

All choices are based off of needs. What functions do you need the chosen item to perform? How well will it perform said functions? Will it perform these functions to your satisfaction?

    I'm saying

    Operator>caliber/shot placement

Can a 22LR in the right spot kill someone? Yes, but I haven't seen anyone here say the Ruger MkII is the best gun for this. It does have a high capacity magazine and a lethal round. Why? Because a 22LR is a smaller bullet than you want to be willing to bet your life on. That is what it all comes down to if you are pulling your pistol out in a defensive situation.

If I am just protecting my life I'm fine with a 9mm; I've carried one before and I might do it again. I'm also in a position where I am protecting my wife also. Because of this added responsibility I carry the biggest lead chunker I can. I carry my Sig 220 on my person; so if I have to I can fight my way back to my truck where my rifle is. THEN we'll see who wants to keep fucking.
