High revs on start up

Hi everyone, I bought my first ever Toyota and have been driving it now for two and a half months. It's a 2005 Tacoma Access cab 4X2 4cyl that I bought from a co-worker that retuired. I use it for my job as furnace technician.
I have a couple of questions about it. 1. I notice that it revs really high when i start it in the morning. Is this normal? It revs upto 200+ RPM and stays there for a while. Now i've driven a lot of different vehicles but for the last 13 years it's been Ford products. In addition to the Tacoma I own a 2000 Ford Excursion Diesel. I know my diesel is designed to kick up the revs after start up to maintain the proper pressure for the fuel pump, but it only goes up to 1000-1300 RPM. Is there a reasoin why the Tacoma revs so high? If this isn't normal how can i adjust it?
This leads me to my second question. How many KM (miles) do these trucks get to a tank of fuel. For 65 liters of fuel I get about 500Km give or take. Is this normal? Does the high rev on start up have any bearing on this?

yah mine revs high when its cold out as for 500km per tank thats about what i get maybe a little less cause of bigger tires but everything sounds normal

 

That fuel consumption seems high to me, I get 540km to 65L with a V6/4wd/Auto. 480km if I drive in the city/short trips only.

 

You get HUNDREDS of km's per tank?! How?

And my V6 revs to 2000+ at startup, and hangs there for a while

 

The revs are normal. They drop pretty quickly and I doubt that has much of an effect on your mileage.
Mileage seems a little low for a 5 lug.

 

I think the high revs is the ECU trying to warm up the cats quicker for better emissions?

Increased RPM is normal until the engine reaches operating temperature.
