Manual or Auto. -------The big decision.

I thought I knew. Really.

Sometime this year I am going to step away from my 2006 SR5 DC 4X4 Auto. (Had it since new) My focus was on getting a 2012 DC OR with the 6 speed in Pyrite Mica. I was pretty clear that's what I was going to get.I have driven a 2011 6MT, so I know how the 6 speed feels. After much though, I made a couple of lists to help cement my decision. My case for the Manual doesn't look good... lol

Nostalgia

Auto
Wife can drive w/ no hassles
Easier to drive when wheeling
No rev-hang
Can eat/drink while driving easier
Better availability- find one w/options wanted
Better resale market

I have a manual. That said nostalgia really is the only upside. I enjoy driving it but the auto is better for everything from wheeling to gas mileage. Unless you're super set on the manual get an auto. It depresses me to say it because I love mine but manuals are out matched these days

Wife won't want to drive it.
Friends won't ask to borrow it.
Thief won't be able to steal it.

Auto, hate my manual now. Never buying a manual car again.

 

I guess in that case you could also say, harder to eat while driving therefore less likely to be a fatty

 

manual! More control when off roading, more fun and in tough with the truck

The 6 speed in the 2nd gens is fucking terrible. Just search all the threads on here. My 09 with 40,000 clanked, chirped, and rattled. Tons more have had the same problems. That's why I got an auto. Sucks too cuz I love manuals.

 

This may be the first time I've seen "car guys" recommend an Auto.

I'm astounded.

 

I really like my Auto after coming from driving a Manual truck for the previous 14 years . I can shift when I want to and don't have to if I don't want to .

 

I've never owned an auto. I want one next time, but I do admit it's nice that nobody wants to borrow my truck. One less thing to deal with.

 

Have you owned a manual 2nd gen? Id recommend flintstone power over that.

This is similar to the perks of an access cab. When someone asks for a lift you can say sure, just cram into this little hole packed full of my stuff

 

Yep, I don't have to play taxi and I still come across as a nice guy because I DID offer!

 

That works well. But with the six speed I don't even have to get off my ass to go answer the phone.

 

If you want a manual, get a 1st gen 5 speed.

otherwise stick to the auto IMO.
