Smoke on Start-up (Advice Please)

So I just recently noticed that the taco hick-ups a little occasionally on start-ups and blows some blue smoke. I know the textbook answer (piston rings) but at the same time bad piston rings tend to have a correlation to how long its sat without running... Mine doesn't seam to have any direct relationship of quantity of smoke to length of sitting.

it did recently throw a Bad Front O2 sensor code...

Any ideas???

Jay try cleaning you MAF first. The environment we wheel in has made me have to clean mine more than once.

 

^The MAF sensor doesn't cause Blue smoke to come out of his engine lol... You guys and you're MAF.

My truck wobbles at 60 mph? Try cleaning your MAF sensor!

yea. mine did that once acouple of weeks ago but hasnt done it since. so im hoping im fine....

 

Smoke on startup is valve guides.

Rings would be if you get on the gas and it blows blue.

 

valve guide SEALS.

 

that dont look too bad. just as long as its not a constant stream of blue smoke, or if it gets worse when u accel. if its just that one puff on start up, i dont think its nothing to be too concerned about at this time.

 

idk, may even be the type of oil ur using. if too thin or to much "super-lube-cleaning-agent-additive" in oil, it may just be seeping by the seals.

 

Quick to criticize but no helpfull advice.

Anyways first rule of wrenching yourself is to start with the simplest things. And yes with the winter mixture of gas around here and sand particles on my MAF I have had all kinds of funny colored smoke come from my truck. And cleaning it fixed it. Damn electronic controlled vehicles these days.

 

Well mine usually just stutters when I start it up but yesterday it stuttered to the point of stalling so its getting worse...

I have done VSS (Valve stem seals) on the 3000gt before and it was probably the hardest job i have done to date on a vehicle lol... anyone have any experience doing them on a taco?

And Chris I'll clean the MAF just in case... I think I'm also gonna pull that O2 sensor that threw the code and try cleaning it

 

You might pull a valve cover and make sure it's not all yucked up with sludge but every one that said valve seals/ guides are spot on however if the oil can't get back into the sump it will smoke on start up also no matter how good the seals are.

 

Wow no wonder the chemical co's are so profitable save your self some effort go buy a new O2 sensor.
