    5000 watts , it only does an 8 circuit little sub panel to run the fridge / freezer and a couple lighting circuits and my tv :)

    Basically I plug the house into the gen via a dedicated recepticle and throw a manual transfer switch

    Too much hassle for a couple hours

    that's really all you need. supposed to do an EPS system for one of our regular clients when he builds a shop on his acreage, 22Kw generac quietsource series with auto transfer switch. supposed to be up and running within 20 seconds of power going out.

    :cool: Glad it wasn't serious. I need to get to work in the garage...but I'm waiting for the sun to come around on the front of the house...it's still -7F outside, supposed to get up into the teens. Funny how it feels fine to me as long as it's a positive number...anything negative just feels uncomfortable. Probably a mental thing ... :eek: :D

    power is pretty reliable here, not too many people have them. the plan is to put the generator by the shop aboot 200ft from the house. not sure aboot the total cost, but the generator alone is ~$8500.

    That's not bad .

    Keeping the generator a ways away is a good call , they run a maintenance cycle on their own , usually for 15 minutes , once a week .
