Largest Tire Size

I recently purchased a set of 305/55/20 procomp tires with wheels. Of course with a leveling kit, i purchased a set of spidertraxx spacers. But it drives TERRIBLE. Got the front end aligned and it still "grabs" one way or another. But I noticed when i put my stock wheels and tires back on even with the spacers still on it drove fine. Im probably gonna end up selling the 20s and tires, and was wondering the largest size tire, or tallest i should say, that you guys have ran without having any driving issues. Id really appreciate the input.

255/80/17

 

i had a set of 285/70/17s and my a-arms rubbed. and with wheel spacers it still drove all over the road...so i dont know. im accepting any thoughts at this point

 

285/70/17 with spidertrax and zero problems

 

How much of a lift did you put on? If you're pushing 3" of lift, you might need new UCAs to get some caster adjustment back. If it truely is just a leveling kit, probably the overly grippy fat tires following every imperfection in the road.

 

i have a hellbent 3" leveling kit and had the spidertraxx spacers and toyo at 285/70/17s. and it still pulled bad even after an alignment. what uca's would you recommend

 

At 3", you run out of adjustment using the factory LCA and non-adjustable UCA. You can usually get everything technically within spec but it's at the outter limits of camber and caster, making the truck feel like it's 'wandering' at speed.

Lots of options for UCA's. Light Racing is one of the cheapest and has great reviews from members who have them. Next cheapest is the Camburg ball joint (not to be confused with the Camburg Uniballs, they're much more expensive), then I think Total Chaos, Camburg Uniballs and the high end would be Icons. Uniball style UCA's offer more travel range than the LR and Camburg ball joint UCA's but are much more expensive and if all you're looking for is to correct alignment, can't go wrong with Light Racing. Fat Bob's Garage has the LR UCA's for $400 shipped, Wheeler's Off Road has the Camburg Ball Joint UCA similarly priced.

Do you happen to have your alignment specs handy?

 

I just took it to an alignment place and just got my receipt i didnt ask for one showing the specs. but i noticed, for instance on our two lane arkansas highways, that the tires either grab one way or the other. and when you brake, they grab one way or the other. But i could get light racing uca's and some 255-80-17s and get rid of my wheel spacers couldn't i?

 

According to OZ, yes. Personally, I'm not familiar with that size tire so I won't swear they'll fit but according to the resident Canadian, they fit

 

just googled the 255/80/17. bf goodrich makes those tires, they do look pretty sweet i might add.

 

i just know the wheel spacers seem to add to the problem and they seem to make things rougher as well.

They're certainly not doing any favors for your wheel bearings, that's for sure!

The only issue with 255/80R17 is I believe it limits you to E rated tires.

just ordered my 255s they will be here wed! so now i need the light racing ucas and ditch the wheel spacers right?

 

Well i have 20x8.5+18 and 285 tires on the front... then i have a 20x10+24 and 305s on the rear tires! Fits nice with my 2 inch lift on front and 2.5 AAL on the back! Love my Setup
