09 Leaf Spring breaks again

This is the second time the leaf spring broke on my 09 Tacoma. I have only 33000kms and it is a little over 3 years old. I had the passenger side leafs replaced last december due to the same problem. Luckly it was under warrenty. Problem is now I am out of warranty. I'm trying to figure out my best options. I don't think they will budge on replacing it for me for free. They said it will cost $590 plus labour to replace.
I'm thinking I can just order one leaf and install it myself some weekend. Or should I just get all new leafs and have it done? Know any good sites? Any suggestions or comments will help.

I rarely offroad and only carried an atv 20 times tops

 

Can you order just the broken leaf through toyota? or measure it an order one through a spring shop? I have rebuilt many spring packs over the years and it isn't a bad job...

Toyota will only order the full spring pack. No spring shops nearby and I'm having no success finding that leaf online

 

Check with yota..they should help you out on that

 

The wetness is just the undercoating. It seems to be more runny with the temp increase.
Are then any aftermarket full leaf packs that are still for the stock height?

 

Dakar, your stocker's cant handle that atv, aftermarkets are going to lift you whether you like it or not.

 

+1 The stock springs are meant to handle the driver and maybe a passenger once in a while. Anything else will frag them. While you may get some lift from an aftermarket leaf pack, the increase in load stability is well worth it.

 

Talk to Alcan, they might be able to make you a stock height set. You might be able to get a set of Dakars too and just remove a few on the springs but I'm not sure how much that would affect them.

 

I'd go after Toyota's customer assistance line 1st. 2nd failure and close on time and miles they should so something for you. Get what you can for free and decide from there about aftermarket.

I only counted 3 leafs? Thought all you guys up there got 4 leaf packs? Might worth checking on that too.

 

Please try to call the dealership where you got it fix before, I believe it dose have warrenty on what they did on the replacement.

 

I might try and complain for a bit longer and see. Naw its four leafs. Just some of the broken one is missing.

If that fails, do you think Dakar leaf springs with 5100" to level it out might be a good idea?

 

I am sure if you post on here you can get a used set of non TSB springs for free almost just since you are a TW member.

Gonna be costly to ship to you but it less than $590 and you get a spare.

I bought a set of TSB springs for $150 shipped to me and will be taking my old stock set and combining them for a 5 pack. Was cheapest and I do not want much lift.

 

ALWAYS a good idea.

 

Go to pick and pull find a leaf similar and rebuild your pack. Might even add another leaf per side

 

Seriously don't even think about replacing one leaf. How many times do you wanna go through this? Get this and be done. the price is cheaper than a stock set and the stock set sucks!!!

I agree about forgetting the factory springs! Just get a good set of aftermarket springs and be done with it. The factory springs are junk from the day they are installed. I have heard about a surprising number of broken leafs on these trucks. If you carry loads then you need some lift in the back. You are not going to find a stock height pack that can carry anything and have any ride quality.

 

If you want to stay at stock height, I'd go through a place like Alcan. They can make you a custom leaf pack that will handle weight better and keep you at stock height.

The Dakars are a great option but give you about 2.5" of lift so you'd have to do something with the front to level you out and probably replace the rear shocks with something more suitable also. The Alcan pack will be more expensive than the Dakar but you won't have to redo the front end so it could end up being cheaper once you consider everything.
