250#? You still got like 25# before the limit is reached...And those limits are always set low by at least 25# or so.

There is a video i saw when i was looking at them a few months ago of a guy pushing 275# in the Glide with fishing gear and a tent packed on it. It was fine. It was the roto mold one, not the blow mold one.

Perceptions "dry storage" is a joke. They have holes going through the foam block so water transfers through the (2) lower tracking channels.

It can easily be caulked up, but it's more of a wet storage then higher priced kayaks.

He failed to mention he will be taking it out on the bay and in the ocean from time to time. That 25# could come in handy should he take a little water on.

I totally forgot about this thread since I came back

Picked up this used oversized trash can this week. It's a Perception 12' (forget what model)

That seems to be a tiny hatch on that perception. I would look on Craigslist to get a used yak. This is for that tacomaworld kayaking trip right? When is that? If you've got a few weeks keep an eye on craigslist and get a bigger higher quality yak used, if you don't find one just go buy one of these real quick before you leave.

Drain plugs are REALLY easy to add. My Perception didn't have any in front or in the back so I bought 2 drain plugs from bass pro and drilled out 2 holes and screwed/caulked in place. Simple mod.
I had the worst issues with my dry storage flooding out when I was being retarded and sunk the kayak a few time in the river. I ended up caulking all the seams on the p.o.s. foam wall and haven't had issues. Even after caulking though, I'd still put anything valuable in dry storage sacks. Perception used to be one of the better brands back in the day but have turned into crap lately.

Looks good Joe...I was lurking looking at everyone's set ups for racks. I hadn't seen it yet. We gotta hit the river up.

So Ive been looking at racks tonight for everything from plywood to kayaks. I currently can't haul plywood or large items due to my tire carrier. I was looking at trailers, but they would get expensive quick and so would getting my truck set up to haul one (no hitch or electronics).

I like the strength (800# capacity) of the Tracrac. It's mounting system is the best design I have seen integrated with our bed rail system and it's $518 shipped. http://www.inlad.com/store/cart.aspx The only problem I can see having it is it's going to get beat to crap by tree branches and other things.

The Thule can be lowered out of harms way, but it's considerably more cash, the mounts look cheesy, and it can only hold 450#.

I have been thinking about a headache rack but most of them looks crappy and the ones I do like are $600+ without a rear bar.

Anyone got any other brands out there that collapse yet are strong and cheap?

I have no idea if they have the mounts out there but try to find something from yakima that you can remove the bars when you aren't using them. I have this set up on my roof:

when I am not using the rack, I just unclip the mount and am left with this:

I need more capacity then that and I do not like roof racks. No way would I drive with a 4' x 8' sheet strapped to my roof....I like to go fast. Thinking of a rack that I can do it all with from RTT, kayaks, bed basket, 14' a frame ladder, etc. Pretty much a universal set up.

i was thinking more along the lines of something like that mounted to the track system. Idk if there is anything like that out there though that mounts/dismounts like that and works with the tracks. I guess you could always fab up a few mounts if you really wanted to.

    Thanks boyd.
Im off till thursday going to do the maiden voyage soon.

I was going to buy kevinS rack but now im not sure. You had about all the same ideas as me, with the same answer.

Dont let the rack capacity fool you. I had a honda civic i used to carry 1"x4"x12' pine on it. I was able to do about 50-60 fine i did 100 the rack held up crush the roof it a little.

It was a thule clip on by the front doors and the back was held on by a bar coming from the front rack.

I'm scarred. I have seen 3 of the roof racks get pushed into the cab and with my access cab my roof line is short. I would be very weary traveling with a 14' ladder balance on 3' of rack.

    Kevin's rack..hmm..get it so I can borrow it :D

I have a question along the lines of the previous posts. Has anyone found a headache rack that uses the track on the inside of the truck bed? Rack-It has something similar to what I am looking for but I think it bolts to the bed.
