Quad cab vs. reg. cab I need input

I'm only 15, but will be driving in a few months. I haven't liked Toyota until the last 2 years, and now it's kind of like an addiction. Anyways, I've been looking for a Tacoma for a first truck, and I need to decide what size cab to get. I'd like a regular cab, but I'm wondering about people space. Would I have enough room to sleep in it if I had to, like across the bench? I don't mind being scrunched a little, but is it possible? And if not, how is the space with a quad cab? I probably should get something other than a regular cab, since I need somewhere to throw my fire dept. gear, but I like the short wheelbase of the reg cab... Any input? Thanks, I appreciate it.

 

Get an xTended cab or a double cab.

My favorite Tacomas are from 1998 to 2004. 4x4, Trd, 5 speed manual and 3.4L.

They last forever and easy to work on, just have the frame inspected for rust though.

 

How much do you have to spend?
What bed size do you want to have, 5' or 6'?

if your going to sleep in it, you have a bench seat in reg cab, or the back seat in dc, same thing...

people space - its pretty clear you can fit alot more people in a DC.

Double Cabs are harder to find, and will pay more for one than a reg cab.

Me personally... I love my DC, but I also have a dog so the back doors and full seats give her more comfort.

 

the truck isnt wide enough to comfortably sleep in if you are an average size adult, so no i would not recommend planning on sleeping in the truck. you can always cover the bed and throw down a pad and a sleeping bag and sleep there. that works fine. as far as cab size goes for daily use...x-cab all the way. you still get the full size bed, room for what ever shit you have on that day in the cab behind you and the space for a friend or two. the regular cab is really a pain in the ass, and the extra dry, safe storage space you get with an extra cab (or double) is well worth it.

1) Forget a regular cab. They suck if you're an inch taller than a stumpy midget.

2) You can't sleep in the cabs unless you are into the whole "I'm homeless and my Taco beats sleeping under the bridge in a cardboard box" thing.

3) If you plan on sleeping in your truck (camping, whatever) get an extended cab and put a campershell on it. A DC is too short to sleep in the bed.

It comes down more to: are you going to haul people or haul stuff. Be honest with yourself. 99.8% of my driving is solo. If I do have to pile a few buddies in my truck for lunch, somebody's riding "bitch." Sorry. If you don't like it, let's take yours...

 

I drove a reg cab for the last 100k. I liked it because they are so easy to drive as far as visibility. I slept in that thing one time and i would never do it again. I now have a double cab.

 

get a double cab. end of story youll thank me later when 4 beautiful women want to go out and guess what, you can fit them all.... at 15 this should be your main priority other than school

im 6 foot and i have slept plenty in my regular cab the bench is good if it is just you and another person if you have three it starts getting cramped

i say extended cab. In a full sized truck its reg cab all the way but tacos are small enough reg cab is just ridiculous unless all you do if off road.

BTW ext cabs can seat up to 5 bitches uncomfortably I've done it on a few beach trips

 

Not yet. I heavily debated the DC for the X-Cab when I bought my 2003. The only thing I don't like about the Gen-I DCs are the short beds. I use my bed a lot. Of course, when I do want to haul people it sucks.

 

yeah thats true i do wish i had the 6ft bed but i wouldnt sacrafice the DC for it. anyways ive seen the DC's with 6ft beds and dont like the looks

Get a cheap ass car and use that do get your screw ups out of the way.

Get an extra cab. You can haul people if you have to and haul junk in the bed if you have to. The back seats are more storage for whatever I want dry for me, couldn't do that with my reg cab. And then of course there's the wheel base, its plenty short enough for a dd. Its the best compromise between both worlds IMO. Either way good luck man, good choice on a first vehicle.

(I would suggest getting a manual at this time as well but for no other reason except that my first truck was a manual and I feel that it is a valuable time to learn to drive one well as well as have some fun driving it)


P.S. don't let anyone tell you only bums sleep in a truck

 

Hell, you may be right. I can't find one single pic of my 97 regular cab. I pitched it in 2003. I've got to dig up a pic of that old truck. Thanks, now I can't sleep till I find one.

Either reg or quad cab your going to be cramped, better off to put on a shell and sleep in the bed of the truck. I like the extra room of the access cab for storeing crap you need to carry and for grocery's when I shop.
