When do Tacoma's truly break-in?

I had told a buddy of mine(Works at Toyota) who owns a 11' DCLB like me(just different colours) and he told me that I am not even broken in yet(I'm at 8500 km's). So my question to all you people is that, when do these trucks finally break in? 100,000 km's? 200,000 kms? Maybe there is no set number, every truck is different maybe? I am just curious though.

 

Depends on your definition of broken in.

Piston rings break in pretty quick now and you should not be consuming any oil after that many miles.

In my eyes all is broken in already after 5-10K

 

I'm not really sure of the conversion from mi to km, but mine started to feel "broken in" after 5500mi.

For what it's worth, I also drive an '11.

 

The first few hundred miles are really all it takes to break in an engine, what your buddy said is basically an expression for a quality engine or vehicle.

Or, its broke-in when its broken, depends how you look at it.

 

Track your fuel economy. Doing that told me my rings seated around 2,500 miles.
I was getting about 14mpg highway as soon as I took delivery of it. Then I hit 17, 16.5, 16, 17.5, 17. By the third fillup where I was within the advertised economy range I knew I was all set. Been getting about 17.5 ever since.
Seriously. This is the only sure way I know, other than taking the motor apart.

 

I think "it's not broken in yet" is just a figure of speech. The break in procedures listed in the owners manual end at 1000 miles (1600KM).

 

You hit 2500 miles after only 3 fill ups? Do you have 2nd fuel tank in your bed?

 

Responding to only a portion of a sentence makes too many people look like asses, and gets too many people in trouble.

The entire phrase was "By the third fillup where I was within the advertised economy range..."

I was indicating that I had had several fillups where I was well below the advertised fuel economy (in the 14s on the highway), and that my measure for my rings having been broken in was at least three consecutive fillups where the fuel economy numbers were consistent and within spec. I had one outlier before then: a single fillup where I got 17.5mpg, but on either side of that fillup I was getting 14-something mpg.

 

Therein lies the problem. You didn't indicate that you had several fillups around 14mpg. The way it was worded sounded like only 1. I won't resort to the same name 1st grade level name calling.

 

They are said to usually break in at around 150,000 miles

 

I have a 12' and i burned rubber out of the dealership lot, I drive my taco hard, i did take it easy for the first few tanks and put it threw the works doing lots of highway and city. For me i just had a few "Grab a gears" and poped the clutch a few times to work it in and thats all i really did. I also run 91 and he pulls. i wouldnt worry about break ins IMO i mean i had just over 2k kms when i took mine wheelin (also got its first battle scars) and just drove it like i would any other vehical.

 

I thought it was 200k.

 

Is that breaking in the engine or your wallet?

Who's doing name calling? I'm simply suggesting that you read what I type. I'm pretty sure if you did that, you would:

1) See that in my first post I did mention getting 14mpg at first.
2) See that in the same post I mentioned about three consecutive fillups of ~17mpg told me my rings were seated.
3) See that I clarified both of the above for you.
4) See that I am now even more clearly clarifying all three of the above for you.

Are you really that dense that I need to walk you through it step by step? Or are you simply still learning how to read?

It's just a standard joke when someone owns a Toyota with 100k on it, or buys a used one with 100k on it.
