I have stolen 16 catalytic converters muwahahahaha

No but seriously, I bought the DTLT's + the Y-pipes, so now I'll have all 4 cats off the Taco, I keep reading about people selling them for the precious metals inside. Might as well make some money back! Anyone have a clue about how to go about doing this??

Find a reputable salvage yard around you and sell your cats to them. Or post them for sale and a member who had theirs stolen would probably take yours in a heartbeat for the right price.

i'd check out new dealer prices and if scrapping them is = or greater than whatever price you think you'd sell them for...scrap them

but i like the idea of posting them here for someone who has had theirs stolen

It's actually illegal to sell used catalytic converters with out having them tested for efficiency first.

    (5) What about using converters from salvage yards or junked cars?
EP A considers it a violation of the policy to install a used converter from a salvage yard or sell it for reuse unless it has been properly tested and labeled. Similarly, it is a violation to install an untested used converter brought in by a customer, even if the customer insists that the used converter came off his/her vehicle.
Salvage or junk yards also would be considered liable for causing tampering if they sell converters that have not been tested or do not meet the requirements outlined in the policy and if the converters are subsequently installed by parties named in the Clean Air Act as prohibited from tampering.

Hmmm.... I wonder if thats the same in Canada?? and even by that, I guess I can still sell them to someone, just the onus is on them to get them installed. And if I'm selling them to a member they'll have the whole pipes along with em. I'm not going to cut out just the cat parts if I can get rid of them whole..

I guess more research is required..

Great information! But all that being said, I'd tell the EPA to kiss my a$$ if someone stole my cats and I could get a set of used ones cheaper than the $800 - $1,000 they cost new :D

I thought I read that's what someone paid when theirs were cut out. There could have been other damage or installation included but I remember just buying the cats alone was a big number! They ain't cheap!

Just checked Rock Auto, they're just under $200/ea so $800 for the 4 of them give or take. I tell ya what, if mine ever got stolen, DT headers and URD Y-pipe, here I come!
