    Hey all,

Currently have a 99 4runner that is pretty fun. 160k on the clock and runs well. You can find me over on T4R.org occasionally.

    Anyway, here's the dealio.

Graduating college in ~3 months. I have a job starting in September. Ever since i was a kid and my aunt had a 95 toyota pickup, I told myself that when I got my first job I would get a taco as a present to myself. Looking at either a new, or year or two old Taco Double Cab Long Bed 4x4. I know new is usually a bad call, but Toyota offering $1000 back, no money down and no payments for 90 days for college grads is a pretty sweet deal.

I can "afford" the payments, so convince me I shouldn't do the "responsible" thing and drive my 4runner 'till it blows up.

How much will you be making vs how much will you be spending to live (rent, insurance, phone etc) if you can actually afford it and not "afford" it then go ahead but remember once you get a tacoma your gonna want to spend all your extra money on it lol.

When I did the college grad program I had to give them a copy of my degree. The program is with in 2 years of graduation. I would wait until at least may of 2013. That way you know monthly expenses and what you can actually afford.

All good points. I can afford it and still be putting away a decent chunk of money for savings (or who am I kidding, a lift!) Living with the girlfriend :)eek:), so rent should be relatively cheap.

Oh, and nobody fights chuck norris and lives.

Strapped to new car payments fresh out of college, not exactly my idea of fun. $1k off, doesn't exactly dull the impact.

My advice - don't be in a rush. Graduate. Log some time on the job. Then see how well you can put dollars into a savings acct, monthly. How much can you do and still enjoy life? $500/mth, $250, etc? If you can do that for 6 months, you have the benefit on knowing what sort of payment you can manage. You also have the benefit of a better down payment.

Personally, I think having spending money is good times when you're young and single. I'd drive the wheels off the 4Runner if were you. I drove my college beater to my 2nd job. By then I had gotten a nice pay bump and could easily afford something more.
