CB Antenna Mount with Shell

Hi everyone I am planning on putting a CB in my truck in the near future and am looking for some advice on where to mount my 3 ft firestick antenna. I have a camper shell on my truck so my options are somewhat limited. I was thinking about a metal plate that is pinched in between the bed rail and the camper or on the rear bumper corner so that it does not interfere with the tailgate opening. But with the antenna only being 3 ft would I have a problem getting good signal with the tip of the antenna not sticking out above the cab top. Also with this position would that leave a gap inbetween the bed rail top and camper bottom or would it pinch tight? Thanks for all help responses!

 

Ideally you want at least 2/3 of the antenna above your cab. Best location is center of the roof. Cb antennas direct their signal down and it reflects off of the metal surface. I don't have a shell but I mounted mine drivers side right behind the cab. My antenna is a 4' so it sticks up quite a bit past the roof. Still not ideal tho.

Need a good ground, and you need elevation above the ground plane.

If mounting on the roof is not an option, then go with a 102" whip mounted to the end of the bumper, but secure a tennis ball to it to keep it from touching the body of the bed.

 

On my 97 I had a Firestik mounted to the rear bumper on the very corner and I ran with a camper shell on it. I tuned the antenna and receiver and never had a problem.
