RAM Hemi is better for milage than TACO WTF?

So, Long story short, I guy who works where i work pulled in with a new Ram 1500 hemi. I Started shooting the shit with him. He said, Yeah i was looking at the Tacoma for my daily driver, but the Dealer ship wanter 33k. I got Ram for the same price. He siad he gets 22 miles a gallon with a HEMI(2012). Really i didnt know that was the number. i figured like 17. He said he didnt care about resale value. I said WTF. He is a nice a wasnt a dick about it though. He also said when he hits the trails he sees tacos hung up all the time. His dedicated trail rig is a 1995 jeep wrangler, he is putting in a 383 in it. Pics will come when he completes it.

Now the question. Was he just spurting shit from his mouth? or are those things all possible?

 

maybe thats what doge says it gets. but we all know that what sticker says and what real world gets is not always the same.

taco’s getting hung up maybe just him BSing or the owners don’t know how to drive. idk. never really taken mine off road so i can’t say much.

 

Where did he get his numbers from? Did his trucks computer give him an estimated 22 mpg as he pulled out of the driveway? Some idiots occasionly see one of those high numbers while sitting at a stop light so they say they get good mileage. I wouldn't buy it without proof.

 

According to Dodge website:

Crew cab 4x2 with automatic hemi: city 14, hwy 20
Crew cab 4x4 with automatic hemi: city 13, hwy 19

According to Toyota website:

Crew cab 4x2 with automatic 4.0: city 17, hwy 21
Crew cab 4x4 with automatic 4.0: city 16, hwy 21

So Toyota wins according to the spec sheet. I usually get around 17 mpg mixed city and highway driving. I think he will probably get around 15 mpg mixed driving unless he likes to unleash the hemi power which will get him about 11-12 mpg.

 

fuck that. not the way my brother drives his ’09. lol i do know the computer stops them at 97 MPH. lol

 

As far as the trail, to me the guy likes to talk shit about stuff he doesn't know about and he is way too proud of his way. That being said, not sure what his "dedicated" trail rig set up is, but Jeeps can be great on the trail. I'm sure one time he saw a Tacoma Hung up on the trail and now it has become always (but don't ask him about the times he has been hung up). Ultimately he looked at the Tacoma and didn't want to pay 33k for it because it didn't have all the bells and whistles that Dodge offers for the same price, he now has a piece of shit with nice bells so he feels obligated to bash Tacomas now. Classic pretty girl turned him down so he didn't want her because she was a slut.

 

Gas mileage- Maybe true...Maybe he drives like a hyper-miling grandma and gets that.
I think I've seen every kinda of truck I can think of hung up on a trail or rock or something...If you ain't getting stuck you ain't trying.
Resale value- He was right- He's gunna get eff'd so it's good that he is not caring about it now...Hopefully he can keep that up.
Is it worth worry about...Nope.

 

The Chevy only gets 20+ on longer highway trips. It shuts down cylinders after so long no needing power and then you get great mileage. In town, you drop very significantly to around 14 - 16 MPG. My old Silverado (without the option to shut down cylinders) would get 17 - 19 on the highway and 14 in town.

The Dodge will get around 20 with mixed driving, especially the smaller V8 they offer. The Hemi is tough to get those kind of numbers. My cousin and a couple co workers have Dodges and they actually do get pretty good mileage.

 

The smaller V8 specs are worse than the hemi in the same configurations that I listed previously.

 

he told me he has got a scan gauge in it. He was like i got 6 trucks. My buisness offers a discont through dodge. He got the truck with 9 mile on it.

He told me i should get a winch becuz without it id never get my taco out. He then told me that i should do a spacer lift. i informed him they were shitty for offroad and he said that there was no prblems for doing it on a dodge.

I think 10-14 MPG is more like it I know two people with them and they both say the mileage sucks. One says his mileage is about 12 MPG highway and in town combined.

 

Guy definitely had no clue what he is talking about.

this. typical full size truck owner banter. everyone elses truck is supperior to everyone elses. and they always have to overcompensate for how it really is.

 

My 04 ram CC 4x4 hemi would do 21-22 highway with windows up and no a/c, at 55-60 mph. At 65-70 with a/c or windows down those numbers dropped to 17-18. And that was doing the math, not the trip meter. And him having a 95 wrangler as his trail rig? That's saying enough there!

 

My stepsons 2001 Dodge Hemi 1500 gets 11-12 mpg around town when I`ve borrowed it.

 

My 4.7 Dakota got 25 on the highway about 17 in town. (RCSB 2wd)

Its true about the Ram 1500s (highway). The MDS system shuts down to 4 cyl and the torque is there when you need it. A v8 just pulls better and unloaded will get you good mileage so long as you keep moving.

 

I just traded in an 07 Ram 1500 Mega Cab 5.7L for an 07 Taco Dbl Prerunner. My Dodge got 12.5 around town, avg hwy was 18 and if I was lucky enough to hwy it longer than 60-75 miles I could stretch it to 22 mpg's. Dodge was equipped with an Injen Power ram intake package and flowmaster 40 series muffler no resonator. Got rid of the Dodge to save gas and because I was tired of drivin it. As far as resale, I was able to get $14K for the Dodge, only because for being an 07 it only had 54K miles on it.
