Sub not working. need help

I have had my sub for more than a year now and its was working perfect until yesterday. Out of nowhere my sub went off. I dont think it popped because I don't have the bass up that much and it came back on for like 10 minutes and it sounded normal then it went off again and has not came back on sense. I checked all the wiring and I put my sub in my friends car and it did not work. I also put his sub in my car and it worked so i know its not the amp. Any ideas why the sub might be doing this? All of the wires and connections are 100% tight.

 

this is happening with mine right now, and has been going on for like a week. one of my friends told me that it was the voice coil going out, i have no idea what that means.

 

Do you have a multi meter? If so put it on the amp and set it to ohms it should read 0 when you have it in whatever channels you normally have it in and do the same for the sub it should read whatever ohm's the sub is. Did you check your wiring inside the box? One of the wires may have been a little bit loose and come off. Turn your truck on and test the amp to make sure it's getting at least 12v and do a continuity test on the ground wire, set to ohm's and put it on the end of the wire that is in the sub and the other end on a piece of bare metal or the 12v input to the sub.

 

Sounds to me like the voice coil has been fried. Subwoofers aren't necessarily meant to last forever. My friend got 2 off brand subwoofers and 1 didn't work and the other had loose connections, internally that is. My point being, some things won't last forever. Pioneer makes some quality car audio, I've had my 10" for about 2 years; had it in 3 cars, and it still works as good as the day I got it. Take this as an opportunity to upgrade. Just my .02.

Im gonna take the sub box apart to see if possibly something came lose inside. the only problem is the whole box is glued together and I might break it while im taking it apart. Whats the best way to open it without breaking or damaging it?

 

Screw the sub out from the mounting hole, it shouldn't be glued in.

 

Yeah, no need to take apart the box. Just unscrew the sub from the box and pull it out and check the wiring.
