ok, so my better-half and i are considering traveling to cancun in late april, actually, just past the traditional "spring break" most americans partake of.........3rd week in april to be specific. having perused the internets vociferously, all seems cool as long as one stays at the resort. traveled to mexico many times, but not with our little one. any and all input appreciated. anyone gone there recently?????

If you and your wife are going then fine as long as you stay on the resort. I would under zero circumstances take my kids there. Mexino is no place for kids. Great for people that want to go to an adult resort and relax.

mexico is a narco-state... lot's of brutal drug cartel violence, hardly any of it reported here... that combined w/ being an american tourist looking "out of place", ..probably not a great idea - i'd look to safer pastures.... just my 0.02..

My wife and I went to Cancun last summer, had a blast! We stayed at the resort mostly, but we took a resort sponsored trip to the Mayan ruins (awesome) and we went to a water park and zip line course, all resort sponsored. The resort was a blast with so much to do. There is nothing wrong with going as long as you dont venture out by yourself and if you leave the resort, go with a group sponsored by your resort. Moon Palace is where we stayed, 10 minutes from the airport. I would definitely go back.

My wife and I have been to Mexico 3 times in the last year and a half. Never felt in danger, uneasy, or scared for my life. We mostly stayed on the resort, but also took a few trips to Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Chichen Itza, and a zipline park. Absolutely loved it. Flew in to Cancun, took a private van to the resort, and had a wonderful time. It's not a border town, so the bloodshed isn't prevalent there. All the money in that region is made from tourism. Why would they compromise that? I saw plenty of security everywhere to help put tourists' minds at ease. Don't hesitate; book the trip and have a great time.
