Ok, I've noticed it and I've done it a couple times as well. Why blur out your license plate numbers when posting pictures. What can people actually do with them anyways?

Seriously though, does posting it on the net increase the chance of that happening when people see the plates every time you drive the truck? Same people could see where you park at work, or where you live by following you home.

    Nothing yet, brand new!
I always block mine out when I post a pic of it.
I almost always back my truck into a spot.
I have my VIN covered with a card.

That's exactly what I think. I mean plate numbers aren't like SSNs where they can destroy your credit. Has anyone site a news story or first hand experience of when someone on the net actually did something with them? I'm just wondering if this is just all myth.

    Exactly....
The only time I bother covering up my license, is if I'm already in photoshop doing something else to the jpeg. That's it.

I'm not worried. If someone wants to find out where you live, there are lots of ways to do it online without your plate info.

I'm more worried about credit card fraud and someone getting a hold of my social security number and credit card numbers than I am of my plate #.

yeah. I can't see how much can be done with your plate number but if they get your VIN number they can do a lot! Specifically have a key made and steal your truck but there are other things that I saw on the news one night.

Someone could subscribe to a website like this and might be able to find personal information. It's $29 for unlimited searches over 3 years.

    haha, i love this review!!

"I was out of town on business while my husband of 23 years told me he was going to go to the cabin with his friends from high school. The weather was pretty bad on our trip and my company sent me home early. I ended up coming home early to find clothes flown everywhere and laced underwear in the bathroom. I heard rustles upstairs and saw someone jump out the lower bedroom window. I raced to the front door, caught the license plate number of my husband's mistress and am now filing for divorce with proof of his dirty actions."

Hopefully - whoever is making the key (coded keys), they'll want proof of ownership and/or they can't make the key unless the vehicle is onsite.

For a regular key or valet key, that's a different story.
