If it was my head gasket.

I have replaced my valve cover gaskets and still have oil running down the back of motor..i cleaned it up and sat under the truck for 30 min running. during that 30min i did not find the source of the leak. there is oil above and below the head gasket so i dont think it is the head gasket...keep in mind i do have 216xxx on it. if it were the head gasket leaking or seeping what symptoms do i look for? Oh And i have never ever had coolant in the oil nor does it seem like i have bad compression the truck runs amazing...just cant figure it out. maybe still the valve cover gasket. and yes i put sealant on the gasket corners.....one more thing between oil changes i am not losing enough oil to notice on dipstick. I just F*&king hate hate hate leaks. Any help much apprecited....

i guess i really just want to know head gasket symptoms for our trucks.

 

It'd be smoking white if you had a leaky head gasket from burning coolant... That's about all I know

 

Exhaust bubbles in your rez and also might find some white foam under your oil fill cap

there was sealant there from the factory. and the half moon peices do.

 

wow thanks man well i am guessing it is the cam seal plugs....ha it is the only thing that isnt new in that area. and for the half moons i put alot of sealant there so now i need to get the seals and take it all apart. thanks so much

 

okay so i have been doing research and cant find anything on the rear cam seals leaking. do they leak often on our trucks? i have taken valve covers off three times and resealed the halfmoon too and still i have oil seeping out back of valve covers. what the F could it be what am i doung wrong? please help!! i am NOT going to dealer or a shop. cant afford and gthey will just throw parts at it. So as of now i am thinking of getting a vc gasket from toyota and redoing it all again. do i need to just get the cam seals too?

 

I haven't read the whole thread but are letting the sealent dry for alittle while before starting up again? also replacing the gaskets after messing with them some many times would be a good idea.

 

the gaskets are brand new felpro so i dont think that taking off 3 times in basically 3 consecutive days would matter but ya maybe i didnt wait long enopugh

 

are you using any additional sealent? what kind?

 

on the half moons i used is pematex create a gasket silicon. i only used it to reseal the half moons and in 90 deg. corners at the base of the cam seal hump.

 

ya well thanks for the help. i guess i just need to redo everything again. really pissing me off but not bad for the only issue at 216xxx miles. KNOCK ON WOOD!
