Need help with picking speakers

Hey guys!

I am sick of my speakers sounding like crap with my Pioneer Z1 crankin'. What speakers do you guys recommend that will sound good without going the whole subwoofer/amp route? I used to have the whole setup in my old car with the components subs and amps and know nothing will compare. But if there is a speaker setup out there that can give me some nice results I will be happy.

nothing you install without an amp will sound good, sorry even a crappy cheap o amp will sound better than the head unit output.

i would reccommend a nice 5 channel amp and add a sub

 

I can't add a sub I always load stuff in the backseat for work

I completely disagree. You can do just fine getting a set of speakers and run them off the stock HU and it can be an improvement.

I do agree that an amp, even many crappy ones, will sound better. But your statement of nothing will sound good couldn't be further from the truth.

 

i have the pioneer tsa series in my 09 and they sound just fine with my f900bt.

 

Do they sound crisp and have a nice bass tone? Or do they top out when you have the music turned up a bit?

 

This wouldn't work I have my seats folded down as a flat surface and have equipment and tools layed across.

Lol I don't think a change in jobs would justify utilizing a sub.

 

i dont crank mine to the top but they get good and loud and still sound clean.

 

Nice what price range do they run?

 

i retail the 6x9 for 80 a pair and the 6 1/2 for 70 a pair. thats installed price of course.

 

Not to shabby... now the decide if I should do speakers or get the TRD CAI group buy.

Forgot to ask... did you do components in the front or coaxial?

i've put decent pioneer speakers in other cars and they sounded good off an aftermarket hu

 

This houses a "12 Pyle. I did find some trunk liner to cover it. It thumps pretty well, I have a 300W bridged OLD Audia amp as the pump. I have the lumber specs if you want em. Accompdates a speaker depth of 5".

 

OP, how much are you looking to spend? A budget number will kind of help in picking out something for you. I am a fan of components, and would recommend them in this application since you will not have a sub. The increased midbass output of a component set (or I shudder to say, some 6x9's) would be a benefit. But, components would also benefit greatly from an amp. You could get an amp with line level inputs or a LOC.

 

I have the Pioneer 900bt. I staged the install of the HU, speakers and amp. Here is my opinion scale of the improvements

First connected the new HU it to the factory speakers. +2 better than stock
Second the new speakers +5 better than stock
Third added the amp to the door speakers +12 better than stock.

My original plan was to only upgrade the HU and speakers. I am NOT an audio guy and have never had an amp on my mids and highs and I did not want to loose storage space to audio gear. The HU was always enough power for me. My goal was to NOT give Toyota $1000 for the JBL upgrade. The day I bought the truck I hated the sound, and I wanted indash nav to play with.

The plan was new HU and speakers. only really b/c of what I read here on the speakers. The pioneer premiers where recommended and I couldn't really argue so I did those in the front and cheaper Pioneers for the rears. I bought my stuff off Amazon and my cart total was around $1100 for the HU and speakers.

While reviewing my cart for checkout they got me with the site design "Products related to items in your cart Pioneer 6400 Amplifier". I saw it saw only like $140, I asked my former installer friend if it makes a difference for the amp. He laughed and said "50 watts would sound better than 14?" Then I realized how about 357% more power for 12% more cost, no problem.

Long story short, I am glad i got the amp and now that I have heard the difference I would never go any other way.

The only thing I would do differently is buy an amp that can be installed below the rear driver side seat. search around and you can see some installs where another amp would fits. The Pioneer is too wide without cutting the body.
