Anything welding

Aside from looks, would the welds be as strong?

 

Polarity will do it.

If you run a lot of flux core through the torch, you might want to keep a liner on hand. They're around $20 or so.

 

Yes, as long as you use the right rod and proper amperage. Most in the feild jobs are done with a stick, its alot easier to set up on job sites and will do pretty much any kind of welding you need and be more then strong enough.

I have been considering a new oxy-acetylene torch. While roaming through home despot the other day I saw a couple of Lincoln Electric brand oxy-acetylene torches. A bit of research indicates Lincoln bought Harris and these are rebranded Harris products. Has anyone here had any experience with them?

 

Did some polished stainless the other day. Tomorrow I'll be welding brass for the first time. Played around with it a little yesterday, definitely a little different.

I have my Dad's Harris set from the early 80's late 70's and it's still going strong. I haven't used it a whole lot but it's a well build set. I mainly mig everything I weld. I have a cutting set for mine but haven't hooked it up yet to try it out.

 

If its just cutting you're using it for, get a plasma since plasma can cut stainless and aluminum unlike oxy-acetylene. If you're using it to weld.. than go for it

Loving the coloration! What is that called when knives have a rainbow look like that? Titanium oxide or something?

 

haha thanks. Im not sure what that is with knives. This is actually a very easy weld. Im just fusing an open corner. No filler rod. Did some brass today. Kinda welds like galvanized in some ways. Nasty stuff. But it looks nice all polished up.

Not bad. Moving a little fast though. Try not to skip so much. Keep your weaving tighter. It will result in a nicer and stronger weld.

 

nope, not spot welding...thats shit....plus, won't hold up on our sae car.

 

Well, I've been in this thread a few times; most recently with minor problems when I started using my machine.
I put together a welding cart and want to show it off. I won't include pictures of the welds as they are still pretty crappy...I need more practice.

The base is part of an electronic equipment rack that I snagged from work scrap. I wanted to keep the design low to fit under the workbench.



Here is a shot of how it will be set up.



I used a piece of strap, bolted in place to secure the bottle; it works great. The bottle is locked in tight, but I loosen one bolt, and it'll slide right out. I also fabbed up a simple cable reel to keep the torch and ground line in place. I have it primed here, but I sprayed it flat black afterwards.
