Anyone want to trade my chrome rear bumper for thier black one ? Great shape only 4K miles on it, last chrome part on the pickup and I hate it !

 

You could always Plastidip it, ColtsTRD on here did and it looks great!

Yeah I might go that route or might just powder coat it idk, moving to Alaska so not sure how the Plastidip would hold up in the weather.

 

Like Cortland said, I plasti-dipped mine and its held up with no issues. No chips, cracks or anything and it cleans up really well. Just throw some armor on it.

 

It says Plasti has a tolerance of -30 F. I'm not sure where you're headed in AK? Elmendorf/Richardson... but I've been up there 12 times and it's a brutal climate like AZ, but just on the other extreme. Hate to see your bumper peel away in the winter...

dude, find yourself a good Powder coating guy. Mine charged me 150$ to powder my bumper and all 4 rings off the TRD beadlock rims. I had to remove everything and drop off...but thats pretty good i think

 

1 or 2 cans of Plastidip is super cheap and if you don't like it then peel it off.

Yeah headed up to ELMO for 4 years so I want it to last, might just do what VolcomTacoma2011 said and just coat it. I was just seeing if anyone had one laying around was all.

 

That's what I did with mine, I'm sure you could get just the bumper done for probably around 100$ tops.

Be careful when taking off the plastic pieces on the bumper, I broke the 2 side ones on accident, 60$ each for them. You have to slide them off, I forget which way, since you can't access the nuts on them, might be able to once the bumper is off, I was stupid and tried to take it all off BEFORE i got the bumper off. just go on a toyota parts place and look up the bumper, You'll see the 2 end plastic piece are attached with 2 bolts that slide on or something like that, and they come with some sort of thread tight stuff already.

Also, had to use a breaker bar to get the bumper off the frames. and had to take a hammer to it to get it back on. the bumper frames are almost under tension when its on, so when you go to get the bumper back on, you'll see that it wont fit by like 1/4 inch. It sucks when you're trying to do it by yourself and you realize you can't do it lol!

Did you remove the bumper or just tape it off?

 

Probably take it off. Everything on the Tacomas are really easy to work with (in my experience) that would herald the best results too.

 

I'm just lazy and heard they were fairly heavy!

 

Awkward to move around (if space is an issue) but not too heavy. Good weekend project for sure

 

Depending if I will be working on my buds vette this weekend, I might take my rear bumper off and give it a few coats of Rustoleum bed liner, along with a couple more on the front bumper.
