leaf pack question

since i just recently purchased my 05 tacoma last summer ad the warrenty was out.. and i didnt get the tsb for the rear end i was wondering what i should do. I know there are alot of other threads out there but i am looking at doing something different. I want leaf springs that are beefer than shit, but will not much or any hidth to the. I just want ones that can handle a good load. all thoughts are appricated

i want replacement leafsprings that are really beefy but wont add a lift to the truck . since the stock leafsprings are shit.

Try taking a look into airbags for the rear suspension. Keeps stock height, lets you inflate for loats

A forum member "4WD" has written several posts about refurbishing leaf spring packs, both for lift and load. He uses salvaged Leaf Springs from Ford and Chevy and creates new suspensions equalling or exceeding anything out there for less than $100. I urge you to check his posts out.

 

yeah i will wolftree. i have never used airbags but i just want a leaf pack that will handle the trucks payload capacity with ease. im not lookin to start anything.

 

I had airbags. They are great for loads and can adjust the height only if needed. I have my bags for sale.

 

are you running stock 3 leafsprings?

I've seen many posts by people who want stock height springs that can handle loads. They don't want any lift in the back. Think about what you are asking for. Springs that have good compliance, give under a load and provide a confortable ride. Springs that don't are like riding a buckboard. If you get a spring that maintains stock ride height with and without a load you are talking about riding on a girder! Springs are very simple devices and you cannot cheat the design. There is a reason that most pickup trucks are high in the rear. It is so that loads can be added without putting the suspension on the stops. They are also designed so that the ride loaded and unloaded is reasonable.

The only way to have a level truck all the time and still have a livable suspension is to use something like an airbag, where you are essentially changing the spring rate to match the load.

 

so would lets say 1.5 to 2 inches just in the back be pretty noticable? or would it look pretty funny?

 

can you pick up a tsb leafspring or something similar to it? since i dont have it. im not looking to double my payload or anything, im just dissapointed with it. Ive had 350-400lbs in the back and it is bottomed out maybe 2inches from stops, and its hits them when going through dips at stoplights.
