I did Moab last year with the guys from Rising Sun 4x4 out of Colorado. The wheeling is pretty epic, as is the scenery.

About 95% of the stuff out there you'd probably want at least armor and 4x4. Even the easiest trail we did (Chicken Corners) had parts that weren't passable in 2wd.

Here's the trail rating system, and recommended equipment, etc.

Vendor night. This was home brew. Guy took it pretty seriously. Delicious beer.

Yeah, drove to Dallas and spent the night with a friend. He (silver 4R in the pics) and I drove to Santa Fe, and camped out in Black Canyon out in Santa Fe National Forest.

From there we drove up through Durango and Monticello to Moab. Took three days of driving. It was about 3300 miles round trip if I remember correctly. I almost got the "longest drive" award at the dinner. Guy from upstate NY beat me though.

That's awesome. Wheeling out west is so much more fun than east. More opportunities to play and not have to get muddy. I'm originally from AZ and whenever I visit family we take off out to Sedona and go wheeling out there.

Dude, you're not lying. It's kinda disappointing around here once you've been out west.

Not to mention there's actually public land with BLM and National Forest Service stuff that we just don't have in the Southeast. Granted, having private places lets people drive crazy aggressive, but I'd rather drive smart than hard and have the variety of trails they have out west.

    Wheel smart = less expensive
    wheel hard = breaking parts

wheeling in the east = mud = angry bearings, seals, etc, etc, etc....

Just look at all the messed up trucks after our last meet. An hour of playing in the mud....

Got a question. Anyone from HSV heading south, or anyone from south heading north anytime soon? I bought Kyle's old hitch and I'm trying to avoid driving to HSV lol.

You guys act like all we have here are mud pits. Ever been to Windrock? GAP? Morris mountain? Mountainside? Golden Mountain? Its not all just about the mud, they have some great trails that arent mud bogs. Sure, go after it has just rained and it will be muddy, but they dont have huge mud holes you have to go through. Im sure the wheeling on the west coast is amazing, but over here isnt just terrible. Windrock is amazing, so is Harlan, although i havent been. And im trying to figure out when to get a chance to go to Rausch creek because it is also supposed to be one of the top parks in the east. There some really good wheeling over here to....

That's not what we are talking about and you are not the only one who knows about offroading in alabama

To clairify for you, we were talking about the quality of the quantity of trails out west . I understand you can drive a few hours to a park here, but out west you can literally do a several day long trail. Don't think windrock, gap, Morris mountain.......blah blah offer that and they can be several hours away from us. By east we are referring to our area. Mountains always offer good offroading and I'm telling you, Alabama doesn't have mountains, we have hills.

Well then there was a mis-understanding, it sounded like you were saying the trails in the east were bad and all they have is mud.

Windrock might not have one trail you can stay on for days, but it has a ton of trails and you sure can wheel the park for multiple days without doing the same trail.
