Preventing Door Dings

I would like some advise..... I have a 09 DC and until this past week, by parking a mile away from my destination have avoided door dings. I had to run into Costco and some a**hole in a beater parked a foot away from me and scratched me good. What provides the best defense? the Aries nerf bars look ok.....nfabs look better but don't look like they would really provent getting dinged. Any tips or products for removing scuffs left from these dings...I was livid!

B.A.M.F. or Relentless sliders, both vendors on here, along with many more to browse. No sense in getting plastic side steps when they cost almost as much as sliders, even if you're not wheelin all that much

 

yea i got custom made sliders that stick out a little bit and they work great. Another thing I try to do is park next to a curb, or in some parking lots they have a little tree/grass divider thing. Park next to those and you have a 50% less chance of getting hit. Avoid this when the landscaping guy is working that day. Got out of work only to notice a huge ding on my tailgate from when he wacked it with the weed eater...

I have to play the same game as you. I park a mile away from everyone else and walk. It works most of the time but as you've noticed, sometimes it's not practical and even when it is some careless inconsiderate jerk can still get you anyway.

I have the OE running boards and I like the look and they do help. The right kind of door or a truck can still ding you. Good luck.

 

Yep-I've got the stock sliders and am jonesing for something wide with a kicker.

 

It don't matter how far you park away. You know that there is going to be some ass that is going to go and park near you on purpose.

 

So true. I always park far and walk. As soon as I get back to the car, I see a beater park next to me.

 

My one roommate hates because I make them walk across the parking lot. I told her that, "I give a shit about my car". "Your car would be the POS that would park next to my truck". lol

For the OP, as far as scuff/scratch removers. I like Maguires products. try either the scratch-X 2.0, or there rubbing compound.. . Stuff works great! just make sure to put a good coat of wax on after doing this...

 

^^I told my roommate that when you get a new car you're going to be doing the something. She said that she wouldn't, which I know it's a lie. I don't know any ladies who take car of they vehicles as well as men do. I'm sure that there is some ladies on this site that do though.

This one time I parked my car next to this PT Cruiser. It was a windy day and I had big doors. My door flew opened and hit the vehicle. When I had gotten out and checked both of cars, there was no damage to either. Once I looked up I had realized that the driver, she was still in her vehicle. I went over and apologized a lot because I didn't mean too. She said, "it was fine, shit happens". That was a close one.

 

Stock sliders? That's a new one on me. I've only seen FJs come with factory sliders. If your talking about nerf bars/ side steps those are not sliders.

 

Costco's a war zone. Costco accounts for most of my door & bumper dings on all my vehicles. That's why I drive my junkiest car there now.

Instead of step tubes, running boards are a bit wider and would fend off the guy next to ya better IMHO.

Sliders or Avid bolt ons

 

I spent 33 years in the grocery business. Trust me, sooner or later bam! Last store I worked at, I parked on the street. Worked for me, but, on my day off some hoople head took the corner too fast and totaled a co-workers car.

 

OEM Running Boards work great for that also. I installed Double Cab boards on my Access cab - so I have wheel -to-wheel protection!
