Easy 3" lift for all you DIY'rs

Hi all,

My first post (well technically my second counting my intro), so I wanted to show some pics of 2 weekends ago when my cousin and I lifted my 2012 Taco.

First some info, this lift is the 3" Procomp kit that includes new coils, shocks, and an add a leaf. I was somewhat concerned about using spacers in the front and only blocks in the back, so we went with this kit and I am pretty satisfied with the results. The Procomp part number for this kit is #K5075B. I could not find this kit on 4WP or Procomp's site, so I wanted to list it here for those interested. The kit seems to be very well constructed and after installation and a front end alignment, it drives exactly as it did when I droe it off the lot. The ride itself is noticeably stiffer (due to the additional leaf in the rear), but this was expected. Even with a little stiffer ride, it drives just fine on the highway and doesn't beat you to death when hitting potholes, etc. Overall I am very satisfied with the lift.

The front and rear flaps had to go and I also had to remove the little flap in the front of the fender well. After that, when I turn COMPLETELY left or right in reverse, I do have a little rubbing, but its only when i'm backing up. I haven't gotten under it just yet to see where's it's hitting, but it's minor at the moment.

Can you give me a little more info on the kit and the install please. I want a 3" lift for my 08 double cab and I am trying to decide on what lift to go with. Did you have to use new uca's and did the coils and shocks come pre assembled?

The kit itself came with the following parts ....
1 set of coils
1 set of leafs
2 ES6000's for the front
2 ES9000's for the rear

They did not come pre-loaded. We had to compress and use the factory top plate. No new UCA at the moment, factory UCA still in place, but I have not had a chance to get off the highway and abuse it to see if it's needed.

I did a good bit of research from many forums (most off of TW) and decided on this kit. So far it feels like it's a very solid kit and I would recommend it (until I break something when I do get it off-road ).
Kit total came in at $468 from 4WP's. Let me know if you want more specifically on the process of the lift.

 

Thanks. I have never done a lift on a truck so I am trying to make it as easy on myself as I can. I probably wont do much off roading so I want it more for looks and a decent ride. I may occasionally drive on the beach but thats about the extent of what I have planned. I cant afford to tear it up and have to pay to fix it. Do you have any vibration issues yet?

 

None at all. Even after we lifted it and put the new wheels on, I had no vibrations or pulling. When I took it to have the alignment, the assessment showed it only needed slight adjustments. Based on what you say your uses for your truck are, I would recommend this lift to anyone that's looking for a cheap lift for looks and some light off-roading.

Next weekend I intend on abusing this kit a little to see if any issues arise, but I would imagine I would have to push it pretty far to have anything break. I'll be out in the mud and some pretty serious holes, so we'll see how well it holds up.

What's your centre of hub to underside of fender measurements ?

 

The ride is noticeably stiffer. Pot holes, speed bumps, curbs , etc jar the truck more than the factory ride, but this was anticipated especially with the added leaf in the rear. However, it's not near as bad as some other kits on other trucks we've installed before.

I did not do any self measurements, but the exact wheel that was purchased had a backspace of 4.53" / -12mm. This was what was recommended by 4WP and also confirmed by tirerack.com.

 

No , your lift measurements , what is it from the centre hub of the wheel to the underside of the fender

 

pretty certain the Procomp coils are the stiffest spring rate of any of the lift coils for these trucks

 

Oh, lol, sorry. I had them written down, but it's on paper at my cousins house. IIRC, I ended up with right at 3 1/2" of lift on both sides in the front and 3 1/4" in the rear on both sides. This was done measuring from the ground to the bottom of the fender, not from the center hub. I'm told this will settle to about 3", but time will tell.

This sounds true. I did some research on the coils and they are 700's, so I wouldn't be surprised if there were kits with lighter coil loads.
