What type of shocks

I have a 2004 dc 4x4, and I want a good comfortable shock to replace the factory ones. The ride is pretty stiff and when I hit bumps or go down hard packed roads it beats you to death. Also the steering feels a little wobbly when you hit rr tracks or washboard roads.
Any suggestions?

 

I really don't think the shocks will make a big change. It is more the springs IMO. But you could try some billys.

get some OME coils and nitrocharger shocks for a smooth nice ride.

 

The shocks are what will change this, your stock springs are softer than anything aftermarket that will lift it, and will make it stiffer. replace your shocks, and your steering rack bushings, then tack weld your steering column joint to eliminate most of the slop you feel.

 

I like the price point on Monroe Reflex Truck shocks. Decent shock for the money. Not sure they will give a cadillac ride but I like them for decent ride and good control. If your only complaint is rough ride your stock shocks might be good. How many miles on the truck? You can tell really bad shocks when your handling goes to heck on the interstate.

Check Rock Auto for good shock prices. Billstiens probably are the best.

Since you are going to get shocks and need to get a spring compressor maybe invest in some springs too to knock out two birds with 1 stone. DC model may have came with Tokico shocks but stock Tokico and/or Bilstein would be best valved for stock springs.

 

I've got the billys and their pretty nice. i didn't replace the springs which are next on the list. I had the same prob as you the shocks def helped but the coil springs are shot too. In the rear i place the firestone helper bags and that was a great investment for 250 bucks. My old tokico when i took them out i could easily push/pull the shocks with just my two fingers LOl so thats about as bad as it gets.
