Mag-Lite. Where to put it?

I bought a 2D cell maglite and I know some places to mount it and stuff, but idk exactly where I should put it. I like the seat idea, but I'm afraid that someday it could accidentally be hit and fall out. And this is in 2nd gen because that's the truck I have and need to know where to put it. I have an access cab now, but I'm planning on getting a DC someday hopefully soon so show some places to put it in a DC too.

 

put the maglite in the trash and buy a real flashlight

...put it under your seat or mount it in the back somewhere

 

Haha. I do have a better flashlight that was $100, but it's too small to mount anywhere. And I can try to figure something out? Plus if I lost the maglite, I wouldn't be as worried compared to losing my $100 flashlight.

I have an LED maglight that isn't bad. I threw all my non LED lights away years ago. The places where it can be mounted are pretty obvious, but I would recommend you not use the maglight mounts. A much better option is a device called a Quick Fist. They come in a number of sizes. The best prices are on Ebay. I use them for everything: axes, shovels, guns, and flashlights. The more secure mounting may open some new options for loaction.

 

if you get those little clip mounts made by maglite, there is no chance it will fall out mounted to the side of the seat. those things hold it extremely tight

 

I have mine mounted with quickfists. This is a 3D cell but you get the idea.

 

Before reading one post this was my thoughts, unless you need a club, get a real light.

I have a Streamlight Stylus, and my friend has some really bright one with strobe. I'm going to get a TLR1s for my Remington 870, do you know if the TLR1s HP would fit on there?

 

I have a rechargeable maglight behind the driver side rear seat in the toyota holder but I have yet to decide how I want to mount the charger in the truck so I have just been bringing it inside one night a week to top off the charge. It probably will get mounted to the plastic behind the seat and wired in this summer.

I have gotten to the point where I don't use it very often but another good option that I really like is my Olight M20 that is always in the console along with a 12v charger and extra set of batteries. Its as bright if not brighter than most streamlights with a good burn time and can be found for much less.

 

I don't know about a 06' but in my DC when i flip my read seat on the driverside there is a actual place for it, i found this out after listening to it roll around in the back of the cab for a 3 hour trip and after i put it there it dosnt make any noise and its still easy to get at if i need it.

Hate to point out the obvious, but what wrong with the factory one?

 

My 2D is in the glove box. I have an LED mini Mag in the console. The mini actually has more of a flood beam for working on the truck. The 2D is excellent for putting a small spot of light somewhere 100 yards away. Or as a hammer. Really the only reason I still have the 2D is for redundancy. One of the two will work. Or I will use my Streamlight Microstream. I keep that in my pocket. It's the size of a tube of chapstick and puts out a better flood beam than the big Maglite.

My opinion: if you're going to the trouble of mounting a light to your truck, and you're actually planning to use it as a light often, buy a rechargeable Streamlight and mount that. The fullsize ones are around 300 lumens, a standard Maglight is around 80-130 depending on what bulb or LED it has in it. The compact ones are around 160 lumens. For some reason Streamlight lumens seem to be brighter than Maglite lumens. My 160 lumen Streamlight Strion will make the Maglite seem like it's not even turned on.

 

Times two on mounting it next to drivers seat. Have a second smaller one mounted in the center console using a bike pump mount.

 

He has an access cab. No maglite holder for us.
