5 lugs have a different suspension than the 6 lugs. They are designed to have better fuel economy ie. smaller tires, lower to the ground, 4 cyl engine only, less expensive to buy. While many folks are happy with the stock configuration and it's benefits, a lot of people on here put larger tires and lifts on them. They are popular for converting to long travel suspension for desert running.

i don't have any need for that whatsoever.

so, therefore, 5 lugs are better.

6 lug first gens are stronger than 5 lug first gens. Not sure about 2nd gen. If you want to offroad...recommend 6 lug.

with a five lug you will have to spend a whole lot more money on your vehicle to achieve the look you want.

i however, wouldn't trade my five lug.

lol, i hear ya, spent 32k on my fjc back in 07. made the last payment last month and brought a 2012 RC/ 4x4. love these yota trucks. have 280k on my 02 sr5, hard to break these toyota's. you couldn't pay me to drive a gm(obama motors). there's no way in h#ll you can put the miles on a gm vs a yota,no fing way! i drive 60k a year and need something that can take a beating and toyota is been a gold star 4 me. don't ask about the gm's that blew up at 100k. i'm pushing 60 and the last 4 new cars i have brought have been yota's. i have 3 of them still, the 4th one the exwife is still driven.

The 5 lug drives and rides quite a bit nicer than the stiffer 6 lug. I like being able to reach stuff in the bottom of the bed while standing next to the truck and getting in and out of the lower truck is easier for this old fart. No climbing required.

A very valid point , I enjoy the lower bed height myself. I really can't understand why some trucks such as the new f150 have bedsides so high. it seems quite pointless to me.
