Dumb idea to lift a base model Tacoma?

Been looking for a 4x4 or per runner 1st gen, but ended up getting a base model xtra cab for a price I couldn't pass up.. So would it be a stupid thing to do to put a lift kit on my Tacoma? Has anyone done this to a regular Tacoma before? I didn't plan on using the 4x4 anyway, just like the looks of them...

 

its possible, guys on here have done it. I would like to know my self because around here the prise difference is at least 2K for the 5lugs VS a prerunner so if I could lift them and sell them it would be awesome. could someone explain what makes them so different?

i'm guessing 5lug is the base model tacoma? and 6lug would be pre runner and 4x4? this is my first tacoma, so i wouldnt know..

 

It's a stupid idea to build your truck based on other people's opinions of what looks good, what doesn't, what's a good idea, what isn't, etc.

Do whatever the hell you want with it. It's your truck. I've seen some sick looking 5 luggers.

 

if you are lifting a 5 lug might as well get a sick mid-travel set up

Or just runs spindles and an AAL or a shacke in the rear and run some aggressive 31'' tires.

IMO it would look good...do what you think would look good, not what others think...

but PLEASE do the lift right...do not run spacers or blocks!

What is with all of you saying not to lift a 5 lug? By that logic you shouldn't lift a prerunner either then. What is the difference between a 5 lug and a prerunner? Suspension, engine, and an extra lug. Maybe even gears. I could see the no way comments if he wanted to slam a 4x4, but that isn't the case.

If you want to lift it then do it, just be sure to be thorough in your research.

 

Some people believe exactly that. I'd take a 5 lug truck over a pre-runner for sure. From an objective point of view (excluding styling preferences) the pre-runner really serves no purpose. 5 lug trucks have lots of advantages over 4x4's in many areas, 4x4's also have many advantages over 5 luggers. Pre runners have the worst features of each group. (other than brakes, i'm assuming 5 lugs don't have the fixed 4 piston calipers).

 

Lift it! I did and was able to put much bigger A/T tires which make all the difference in the world when in off road or wintery conditions. Every person here that has a 4x4 will tell you not to do it, not sure why or care to know why. Do what ever you want, it's your truck!

I say do it. I've seen some pretty sweet lookin 5-luggers. Idk what your planning on using it for but you can't go wrong with having your truck the way you want it
