i know this makes me sound like a goofus but what does SR5 really mean. Ive read alot of different things that have different meanings...my truck is a 01 taco 2wd ex cab with the 2.4 and auto, manual windows and locks, it says SR5. my brothers 95 4 runner is v6 2wd with power windows and locks and sunroof and it says SR5, a good friend of both ours has a 03 taco 4x4 with the 2.7 5 speed excab with manual windows and locks and it says SR5...so WTFrank does this mean? or is it just some cool lookin letters that toyota had way to many made of and this is the only way to keep from wasting

aren't the first gen auto's 4 speed? Also, my 2nd gen manual is 6 speed yet still says sr5 (at least I'm pretty sure it does, I can't seem to 100% commit to saying it does even though I'm fairly certain)

You asked what it means, and thats what it means. It has since become a indentifier for a trim line.

SR5 is just a trim package. Mine is both a TRD and has the SR5 package as well as about 12,000 other Tacoma owners.

Been around a while as a trim designator. I think my 81 Corolla was "SR5" which meant only some extra white pin striping in the case of that car.
