Who's doing what for oil pressure and volt gauges ?

I wanted to put this out and see what's going on with this idea. I miss the full instrumentation that I had with my old S-10 and honestly speaking, I've always had or installed gauges for whatever vehicle I had. I like to know what's going on with my vehicles.

I see that there is a supplier for the gauge pod that mounts to the drivers side windshield pillar and I have not heard that best about the fit and finish on those. I'm not against a little bit of cleanup trimming, but rumors of the finish not holding up kinda put me off to those. Not only that but they are also a little bold and can attract attention that I may not want.

My only other idea was to find some 1.5" gauges to install in the pocket just in front of the shifter. That was my location idea but I also need a little help here for a moment. All of the aftermarket oil pressure gauges that I have installed have been mechanical units. I (this time) don't know if I want to bring in a pressurized oil line into the cab of the truck. So, then I was thinking electric sending unit. Where in the hell do I find a pick up point on the 4.0L ? Also, what is the correct thread for adapters?

Post up guys and girls. Pics would be a bonus too!

Hey wacko! !! I don't have an answer about where to get the gauges but I do agree that I think they could have done a better in the design of the instrument panel! !! ! I believe Toyota should let Truck people design Trucks:D

Here is the Lotek Pod everyone is talking about. I didnt have any issues with the finish and I was pretty rough putting it in. I had to trim the handle a little to get it to sit flush but that was about it.

now, I do know that they make an adapter that will fit between the oil filter and the motor and give you two pickups for oil pressure and temperature. I run fuel pressure so i dont personally use it

Here is the place that makes them

I use my scangauge for measuring volts, water temp and intake temp. Don't bother with oil temp or pressure beyond the stock display.

That's something Scangauge could probably do in the future.... If we all pushed it hard enough. I'm still waiting for the Transmission temps to be available.

    What is to scan?
    No oil pressure? Idiot light.
    I too want gauges.
We have abdicated to what to control our fate?
Ampmeter showing discharge? You might want to look into that.

The idiot light it too late and the damage could be done,

I like Oil pressure, Fuel pressure, and if you have an auto ( especially with lift, tires and s/c) Trans temp

Fuel pressure worked for me cuz at Redline I can see the pump give out and fuel pressure drop, which is why it leans out a bit

Gauges were not a problem in the old days. Just cut a hole and run the wires.
    Try that today.
At least, they can give us an oil pressure gauge that you can read in PSI. And not have to hang off the steering coloum. How tacky.

I agree Dan. The ScanGauge is cool but I wish someone would come up with a less tacky method for mounting it in the taco. That is the only reason I haven't purchased one yet.

I REALLY like the looks of the pillar pod but by the time you buy the pod and a couple gauges you could have bought a ScanGauge. And the ScanGauge does so much more...

You do an instrumemt and mirror scan every 30" just like you were taught right?
This idea, not only does not give you the information, it is un natural.
I should say that I am a pilot and used to instrumentation being where I see the really important things first. I have to lean over to see the EGT. But if I`m in trouble, which would be close to the ground, I have it full rich anyway. So the EGT is a nice gauge to lean the F/A Mix with at altitude.
eg: If oil pressure needle does not move I shut down the engine until I know why.
    This only makes sense.
The compass on the taco has saved me a wrong turn. I have one on the `62 GMC. It is a wet not digital, yet it tells you the same thing more exactly.

scangauges doenst show oil pressure, or fuel pressure, or EGT. Our trucks dont even monitor fuel pressure

it does show water temp, intake temp, volts, and the other OBDII parameters.

putting it on top of the steering wheel actually doesnt look that bad in person. It was the only place to put it a make it easy to see. I use it to watch the switch from closed loop to open loop when tuning.

for me it was as easy as running the wires and the boost line to the engine bay and being done with it. The URD S/C has an additional fuel like going to the 7th injector which you just unscrew and put the fuel tap inline. super easy
