    Hi guys, I have a question and please dont laugh to loud since this is the first tacoma i have owned. Where do you Check The Transmission Fuild? or are you supposed to? I have lood the engine compartment over and for the life of me I cant find a tranny Dipstick.

    Its a sealed unit, so there is no dip stick to check it with.

    supposedly the 2012's have platinum spark plugs so no need to change til 105k, i asked a service technician on thursday while i was there getting a tire replaced. with that being said my '05 had copper plugs and i had to change them at 30k miles

    V6 vs I4? Doesn't one take copper and the other Platinum from the factory?

    Regardless... check the service intervals in the OM.
    Generally, copper = 30k, platinum = 60k, and iridium = 105k.

    Personally, I'd change the trans fluid every 30k... no more than 50k.
    No dipstick = "sealed" unit and Toyota "WS" fluid. There is a thread here describing the proper way to change it.

    idk why they wouldn't change spark plugs, who wants to change spark plugs every 30k miles?? And maybe it's irridium not platinum. my OM does say change at 30k miles though so i'm confused. I've had two separate dealerships tell me they aren't to be changed til 105k miles and i'm sure they weren't just referring to 2.7L, b/c there are more 4.0 tacoma's than 2.7's i would think. the OM says 4 cyl have irridium spark plugs

    Sometimes the service managers are completely full of shit. They have to handle 30 different vehicles/engine configurations up to 30 years old. They aren't going to know this shit off the top of their head like someone who ONLY works on 2nd Gen Tacos would.

    Like the service managers who say that factory cruise on a 5-lug 2.7 is impossible, and that installing intermittent wipers needs a controller board and motor. Ya right. 30 minutes max, $250, and both mods can be completed without leaving the driver's seat from the driving position.

    You change your plugs in 20 minutes MAX!:eek: That is pretty damn impressive! It takes me about an hour and a half plus a few beers.

    20 mins to remove the coil packs, take out plugs, put new plugs in, bolt down the coils, and put the air intake and various connections back on is some straight NASCAR shit....you should be on a pit crew, or maybe you work on one already?

    That's how it should be, never knew auto makers making u change tranny fluid at 50k miles. unless you haul/pull alot and drive in harsh situations a lot

    He also must not HAVE to use tools. He just looks at bolts and plugs and they remove themselves. I wish I had this capability, and the ability to post on TW not from my computer, but from my thoughts:cool:
