So, I got a jury summons the other day in the mail. It's for late April. Now, I was actually a juror in a murder trial a few years ago & the damn thing lasted almost 6 weeks! Good experience, but...... I really don't want to go through that shit again. I wouldn't mind if the trial lasted a week or two for that matter. I mean, I get 2 weeks of pay through work, so that would be no biggie. So I'm wondering, have any of you guys been summoned & not gone? What would happen if I did not go? Thanks!

I used to live in Los Angeles a few years ago. Got summoned and selected for a trial. What they told us then was that since so many people don't report for jury duty, they were going to start putting a hold anything you try to do through the state if you don't show.

For instance, if you don't go, the next time you try to renew your driver's license, there would be a fine that you would have to pay for missing jury duty before you could renew your license. I don't know if any of that is actually true or just a scare tactic.

Yeah....I wouldn't skip out. They can mess with you all sorts of ways.
You've got a pretty good shot at NOT getting picked.

    Yes
In Canada if you can give a valid excuse you can be exempt. My brother said he could not afford to miss class. I said the $50 a day they were paying was not equal to the money I will lose by missing work, especially since they could not guarantee how long the trial would last. I've never set foot inside a court room.

Yea, that's what I've heard too. I don't want that stuff on my shoulders, that's for sure! Not worth it! I mean, I'll wind up going, (if I get called) but it be nice to know if, or what would actually happen if I didn't go, through someone else's expeirence.
    Thanks for the replies guys!:D

Well, the only issue I have about it is the time involved. The last time I did this it took 6 weeks! Waaayy too long for me. I wouldn't mind if if it was a week or two. But you don't have any control over that unfortunately.....so I'll have to hope to be let go I guess.....

I'll keep you guys informed on how it goes........keep the fingers crossed......

Pull a Ted Nugent. Don't take your pants off for two weeks. For any reason. Any at all. They'll send you home before you get out of the truck in the parking lot.

No seriously, if you don't show, and you don't have a REAL good excuse, it's contempt of court. Best go, and hope you don't get picked.
