Should I Feel Responsible?

I'm posting on TW because I want to get unbiased answers and for the other individual to not know about this thread. So a few weeks ago I sent another forum member a PM about a lead on some Tundra TRD shocks/coils for his lift. I had texted the seller on my own time and talked him through what I was looking for and received a picture text with the correct product. Once I knew they were correct I sent the craigslist ad and number to the other forum member. I'm 95% sure I double checked the numbers on my phone and ad to make sure it was the correct one. I don't have my PM's to check or text messages as they were deleted to clear space for more pm's/texts, but I remember doing it.

He ended up looking into the coils a week or more after I sent him the link and said they lady wanted $100 not $70 as before. I told him that was weird and she might have raised the price after getting interest. I'm not sure. Well he followed through with the purchase and had them shipped to him. When they arrived a week or so later they were the wrong coils/shocks. I'm not sure if they told me the wrong info/picture or if I ended up giving him the wrong ad/number (not likely, but I was looking at multiple ads at the time).

So my dilemma is that I feel really bad that he wasted over $100 for useless shocks/coils that I showed him. I kind of feel like I should buy them off him till he can/if sell them, but at the same time I don't have $100 to spare and he didn't request any info himself. I think he should have at least confirmed before buying regardless of me saying they were correct. I just have no use for the coils and I'm strapped for cash as it is.

Should I pay the full amount and have him pay me back if he can sell them or should I split the cost with him or just let him know he's on his own. I don't think he can do a paypal dispute since he didn't ask any info or confirm they were correct.

Any input would be very helpful as he is a good guy and I hate to see him getting screwed over.

Not your problem. He should have double checked.

 

in the end it was his money and his purchase... helping is always great but he needs to know what he is doing with his money


shitty it didn't work out but i don't think you should feel obligated to invest your money into someone else's mistake of not thoroughly looking into what they were shelling their money out for

 

I would say move on and don't worry about it.

Sounds like a lot of stress for $100.

Have you spoke to the dude that purchased them? How does he feel?

You could buy them and sell them yourself if you think he needs paid back...

Basically I'm thinking the same as you guys. I just know the other guy is struggling for cash as well. I talked to him and he said he'd be stoked to have me buy them, but understands if I don't.

The problem with buying and selling them is I would have to pay shipping to me and they aren't worth much. They are just plain 1st gen Tundra coils/shocks not the TRD ones that we thought they were. I agree it's a lot to mull over for $100+, but $100+ is a lot to come by these days. I'm already working overtime at my job to make sure we have our bills paid and some extra money to do/get things we enjoy. I just hate leaving him to dry, but it was his bad not checking.

 

So, you told another member that you found a Craigslist add posted by someone that you don't know? And you talked to that person and you believed they were selling an item that the other forum member wanted? If that's what happened, and you made it clear that you didn't know the seller, then I say not your problem. The other member is a big boy just like you and needs to handle his own personal business. As you said, you just sent him a lead, you didn't claim to know the seller and whether or not they could be trusted.

That's what I'm thinking now, which would cover the shipping. He can try to resell them and make the rest.

 

You're a stand up guy. I think that's above and beyond. I would suggest that if you get involved in anything like this in the future, make sure to put a disclaimer on it. "I don't know the seller, and you need to double check and make sure, dude!"

 

^^Thanks, and I definitely will let people know that I'm no way responsible in the future. I definitely wouldn't ask for money from anyone because I would feel it was my fault, but I understand money is tight these days.

 

A. Why did you not say your motive for helping this individual out?
B. Why so needy for others to justify your actions?
C. Who is said person and where is their side?

 

The other members initial message: Hey. So I just got these today finally. Im curious, who told you they were the TRD coils? They are yellow/white and blue/white with tokico shocks. So definately not the TRD coils. Im wondering if they lied to you about it. I didnt confirm the color codes with the lady before I bought them as I was just going off of this message.
