Welcome! We do many meets with just us guys. Offroading and mod meets. We have a lot of fun! I'm in Montevallo, and work in Pelham. They send me up to BHam a lot. I've probably seen your truck before.

We love truck pics by the way!

We just finished a meet with about 20 trucks up in Huntsville. It was a great sight, but it was just us hanging out at my house and working on a few things and then taking a short ride.

I wonder if a dealership would sponsor up a public meet.

I've long thought it would be cool to start an AL chapter of the TLCA (Toyota Land Cruiser Association). It's open to any Toyota with a transfer case. I know this leaves out our 2wd friends, however, they can join local chapters. They just can't be voting members. Friend's chapter in CO (Rising Sun 4x4 Club) has their meetings at a Toyota dealership in Denver I think.

Well I'll be damned. Yup. Deep south cruisers. Maybe we should join up.

Edit: Looks like Deep South Cruisers is defunct.

Current is DixieLand Cruisers, though they aren't yet a chartered TLCA club.

I'll buy a transfer case and put it in the bed of my truck for extra weight.

Thanks for the links. Those were very helpful. I was thinking about starting out with an easy trail or two to get used to the different type of wheeling and then move up to a few of the harder ones. I was thinking golden spike and hells revenge. What do you think about that? And then possibly running the rubicon depeding on how long moab takes us.

I'm down for any trail 6 and under. by then i should have sliders winch and be fully locked. I'm buying a snorkel here in a week or 2 gonna be painful drilling into my truck so anyone up for a day of drilling and good grill out and maybe just maybe seeing how well my truck swims??? haha jk! I'm getting it for performance and looks. but for real would love to find a hard bottom water crossing to try it out.

I'll do it for you! I'm good at cutting into our trucks! LOL! I've had practice! about 6 feet of practice to be exact!

if you got a way of getting it in and out and they let me....no wait i need to be able to move so i don't get flooded with a bunch of water!! as long as i can move a little forward and keep moving forward i will be okay.

Best way to test it without having to stop in neck high water, is to fill a bunch of buckets with water, start her up and have everyone dump the water in the engine bay. You'll likely have to seal more then the intake.

Yeah, I definitely recommend cutting your teeth on something not too daunting to learn how the vehicle behaves on the terrain out there. I can't tell you how many times I watched the truck in front of me (Fully locked FZJ80, and a fully locked FJ60 most of the time) go up something and thought, "Nooooo f'ing way I'm making that," and then made it through. That was definitely the coolest thing, learning more about the capability of the truck.

This is the obstacle where a couple of folks yanked the front tires off the ground in FJ60's. It's tough to tell exactly how steep it is. The only thing you see through the windshield is sky. Set up your line, then pull straight up it:

Hell's Revenge had some obstacles that were off limits due to our BLM permit. The Escalator and Hell's Gate were both closed. Not sure if they're open with other permits or what the deal is. I honestly don't know how the permit system works with the BLM trails. I didn't run Hell's Revenge though. I do know that if you run the gate, you want someone who has spotted it (successfully) before. From what I've heard, it feels good, but then all hell breaks loose really quickly if you're off line.

Thanks for the help! Those look like some fun trails, hopefully hells gate and escalator will be open. We will try to get some locals to spot us if we do end up doing the trails. thanks again for the help, I appreciate it.

Kyle's at work, so I'll post a few pictures from the trail ride he and I did on saturday.

The pics don't do a lot of justice, but the trail was pretty damn narrow and kyles truck with the high clearance bumpers is about as long of a vehicle that could do the trail. There were even some spots where a locker would have been nice.

A tree was down in the trail at this point so we had to make our own bypass. A locker would have saved a lot of time and multi-point turns. In this picture, kyle had to do his best to turn hard left off the trail.

The first exit off the trail (about a quarter way through the trail) is pretty much impassible. It's eroded down the center so you have no choice but to follow the rut, and there is a drop off from a pipe. Here is the angle it put kyle at.

You used to be able to get onto the trail from this part, but I would highly doubt any of the trucks here could now. At some point kyle and I are going to hike more of the second portion of the trail to see how doable it is. It gets even more narrow and windier through trees. I'd say we did about 2 miles and it took us about 2 hours. If the rest of the trail was similar to the first part, and there was an exit at the end, if would probably be a 5-6 hour trail. If there isn't an exit and you have to turn back around, it might take a while longer.

Ill help you install it! We can go out to lakeshore to test it out, remember that trail we took and went up that huge hill that you had a little trouble on? If you keep going down that trail, there is a creek that gets pretty darn deep, catch after it rains and it will be over the hood.
