took my treadwright guard dogs off road for the first time today and i love these tires, they are loud on road but these fuckers grip really well off road.

Does anyone know about how many miles you could expect out of them? What load rating have you guys been buying?

And what about the Backbone mt retreads? I notice that they are the same price as the guard dogs but does anyone have an opinion on if it would be worth buying them over the guard dogs?

    Thanks

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
i wouldnt get anything over a D range. and i'm running the backbones as a trail only set. they only see the highway to/from the house to the trails and back. sometimes that's 4 hours each way and one time it was 7 hours each way. if they are primarily going to be used on the highway as DD tires too, i'd run the guard dogs.

I had a set of treadwrights and loved then. 285/75r16 on a full size dodge. 32,000 on then when I sold the truck and they still had 25% left. Recap tires are fine I've ran them on my personal rides and on the commercial vehicles I drove. Just keep the air pressure right and they will last

I ran retread tires on my car and one split along the seam after doing a hard brake and avoid manoeuvre when I was cut off by someone coming out of a driveway.

That said, this was 14 years ago and they may have improved the technology since then.

Do you think that the backbones are better offroad than the guard dogs?
If I buy them they would yes be primarily my offroad tires or winter tires but at the same time I like the looks of the guard dogs better so unless the backbones are that much better offroad or something than I will probably just go with the guard dogs, even though they will probably rarely see pavement.

Got my wardens in thursday. Wanted backbones but didnt want to wait 2-3 weeks plus the extra 7-10 to make and ship them. Very impressed with customer service and fast shipping. Even called after my order got here to ask how everything went. Cant beat that.

Anyone running C rated Guard Dogs? I want the least weight for mpg commuting. I worry about side ply though as they are previously used. When I go offroad there is usually mud and I have no locker so I would like these. I temporarily have to do a lot of commuting right now with the Tacoma but want the offroad tire capability.

My plan is to go with a lift and bigger tires next year, but I need tires soon as they are getting bald. So I want to get some 265/75/16's now and not spend a ton as I will probably want bigger tires after the lift. Sure I could just go with the cheapest new tires I can find right now, but having mud capable tires at the price of the treadwrights is very appealing...

You should be fine with a C range tire, just ask for a casing that is known for standing up to abuse like the Goodyear Wrangler MTR or Cooper with ArmorTek.

Alright, thanks for the tip and the quick response. Unless I find a great deal on something else it looks like I will be ordering the treadwrights next paycheck day.

I almost bought some, they were backordered and I need tires quick. Went with discount. Glad I did. Got new tires and warranty certs. I've killed two already in 12k miles. Both been replaced for $43.01 each to replace the warranty.
