I know that our payload is only around 1,000 lbs in the bed in the stock configuration, but if I've had the rear-leaf TSB and 5100s does that buy me anymore payload?

No, it just helps the truck deal with the payload easier.

Wow that was fast. Thanks! Additional question... with a tow rating of 6,500 lbs does that mean I can have about 1,000 lbs in the bed and 5,500 lbs being towed?

    I wouldn't advise it.

Additional question: What the hell do you plan on moving with your truck?!

Depends. You have a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating which needs to include the truck, payload (including passengers) and the trailer's tongue weight. So if you have 1,000 lbs in the bed, that trailer had better have a light tongue weight!

I'm moving cross country. I get paid by weight so I'm trying to haul as much as possible.

It's refreshing to see someone post up a question, interact coherently with the people providing the answers and then actually give a reason for the questions. Also, thanks for the chuckle.

    Thumbs up to your sir.

I have done all the hi-pro mods for a life time, since I got this truck at a great price, I will be happy with showroom new.
I will try to give you a few words of wisdom, or not.... and by the way that pic is toooo much,
pulling that kind of weight can be done, but you need to know what you are doing and prepare your truck to do it. I am not being a smart ass, and I know you can drive a truck, but a lot of people are very cocky when it comes to towing and that attitude can cause problems.
your seem to have a good stout truck, does it have towing package?
do you have a hitch on the truck?
do u have any idea what kind of trailer u are going to tow? uhaul, one axle or two?
my uncle used to build tag-a-long trailers for backhoes ect.,, for 35 years and we had all kinds of truck to deliver them, one good buy was a 94 f150 basic truck, 5 speed, and inline 6, which was a hell of a strong motor, for me to do light stuff and use as a salesman truck, we did the wiring and he got a class 4 hitch from Redneck used grade 8 bolts and nuts and lock washers and then welded them but I could take a 9-10-or 12 ton dulle wheel anywhere, through the mountains, one would be the max but a 9 ton weighed 6,000lbs and a 12 ton was7,500 with oak deck, and i put 180,000 miles on that truck and it did not use oil, until his son the pothead destroyed 3rd gear, (fucking retard).
and with what i knew about stuff then we used the best gear oil, mobile one, keeped up with all maintance and never had a issue with towing and wear.
you need to make sure its loaded right, if the ass end is low and dragging and the nose of trailer is pointed down, THAT IS NOT GOOD! first time i asked about that he yelled, HOW MANY WOMEN YOU KNOW LIKE TO DRAG THERE ASS AROUND???
so, sorry about long winded response, I think it can be done, but you need to make sure you and the truck are ready.

Thanks for the offer. I'm sure this will come to no surprise to anybody considering those that are laughing at me, but I know next to nothing about towing. Because of that I decided not to try right now cuz hauling a trailer x-country is probably not the best time to learn. But just to answer some of the questions from earlier and to hopefully prove I'm not as much of a retard as some people must think here's a little more info. The trailer I was looking into was just a little 5x8 with a weight Limit of about 3,000 lbs. so I was trying to find out what combination of payload in my bed and towing weight I could haul. Thanks to those who were cool and helpful.

Well I dont know why anyone would be laughing at you, no one I have ever meet was born with all their smarts, and if you don't ask any questions you wont get smarter.
a little 5x8 hell your truck wont know its there. and i didn't mean so scare you but some people just think" there is a 2" ball hitch in my bumper, hell I am going to get a Airstream for vacation." And I dont carry a camera but I have seen on 2 separate occasions someone getting mad and giving the truck some gas and tearing off their bumpers. now you are lucky, around Dayton, there should be, well there used to be before the depression, lots of large RV places. even if you cant hold a wrench a good rec. hitch is so easy to mount. at that weight your are not required by law to have trailer breaks, just lights, and the real secret is keeping the truck serviced. after one week at my uncles shop, and getting to know his trucks, we loaded a 20 ton air, that had lots of options on a 10 ton and headed to AKRON TRACTOR. I had 10 solid hours of looking up in the rear view mirror and all I saw was steel. had to get gas every 150 miles.. going up fancy gap in Virginia the gas hand dropped half a tank.
and if you are very handy with tools, and have a few good buddies, go to Redneck Trailer Supplies, they have a good web site, and they are nation wide. and there is tractor supply, but have shpped them before and they were a bit to a lot higher than the full Redneck price so I will leave that alone.Redneck will have everything you could ever need, at one time they were Dexter Axle's biggest vendor and at least to me they were good to deal with and very helpful. In some ways I feel lucky, and like to share some information, my grandfather was a terminal manager for a trucking company, so I learned to drive when I was 14, and have been up over and around trucks most of my early days instead of baseball......
and if you buy a small trailer try to get Dexter Axle or try to check the axle brand, and this is important, small trailer will have a (and I am sorry to say this) cheap 2" ball coupler welded straight to the frame. My uncle despised those, with a passion. there are some really cheaply made 2" couplers on the market and they will wear out very fast, (you need to keep some good grease on it, it helps) and with a single axle its very easy to jackknife, faster than you can blink, and they cant stand up to any abuse, they warp easy and will not lock down. we used these http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200331187_200331187 for some of the small trailer we built, not many because he always overbuilt them and never made alot on them to start. he would only use that or he would not build the trailer, they have a bolt plate for it, so when you pull the tongue in you place the plate in and weld it up there instead of using the ball coupler, and if you wear out the cheap 2" that has to be burned off and smooth down and someone good has to re weld a new one on square, or it wont pull right.
lots to digest.. if too much sorry.

also, if you buy a trailer, you should get a title, it is considered the same as a car. I have had to make titles for some little 500 pound trailers. Check with your state about reg. and insurance, and I can tell you this, Ohio seemed easy, we never had things sent back from the state. and check with your auto insurance, they have tighten up on the weekend warriors who try to slide on things.
AND GET A TRAILER LOCK. WITH THE BUYERS, YOU Can just unbolt it and there is nothing to hook to, and prob. wont have one with them but people steal trailers all the time esp. at busy interstate hotels.
