Yes, blue means closed to ORV use, but open to pedestrian use (meaning you can park and walk a bit). And there's still way more green than blue. I personally like the fact that there are places to enjoy the beach where you don't have to listen to engines and look out for vehicles, all while protecting the environment. I'm sure many others appreciate these facts too, and that's why I won't be signing this petition.

Why does it hurt? I still haven't seen any solid reasons why this is bad other than hollow claims it will hurt the local economy.

In fact, I'd be willing to bet these new regulations will ultimately promote more tourism, thereby maintaining tourist revenue which sustains that area. People love pristine areas. Remember, these aren't he 1930s anymore; we've used and abused many of our recreation areas since then. Now it's time to fix that.

I've meet most of the locals you see in the video siding with the people, that's why it hurts. Just the mention of closures down there has tourists going else where, and the closures change, you really don't know what's open till you get there. If you owned a business there, your books would not be hollow claims of hurt.
This plan does sound good for the environment and wild life, however listening to locals talk about this issue they seem to make the case that it's not about the wild life, but rather dollar signs and no locals. Sure makes me think twice when I hear a familiar face telling me it's wrong.

I'm trying really hard to read your input on the subject without being personally offensive in my replies but this is getting to be quite the task. I'm not a tree hugger but I absolutely respect the efforts and reasoning (much of which I may not understand) of NPS. You are being incredibly immature and short sighted in your reasoning. You only seem to care because you have one less place to drive your truck and because locals are having difficulty coping with the economic change. To those concerns I have to say: 1) Go offroading somewhere else and stop trying to consolidate your beach outings with your offroading. 2) America is supposed to be the land of opportunity so adapt with the opportunities. I have no sympathy for anyone who can't figure out how to make a living beyond whoring out the natural beauty of the area they were fortunate enough to be born near. What was initially beautiful becomes a dried up old whore that in no way resembles what was once good. Then you are just left with commercial hot spot with no character or integrity. You know, the reasons why you probably went there in the first place.

NPS has a job to do and that job is not to satisfy people. As stated many times here already, NPS exists to preserve the natural heritage that is confined within the geography that is under the care of the United States government. Their job is not to maintain tourist destinations. Tourists should respect the efforts of NPS for keeping these destinations beautiful. For those that don't offroad or hunt, we can count on NPS to demonstrate what is truly great about the natural beauty of America. If you had your way, there would be no natural beauty. We would have a country full of mud pits and offroad courses.

I come from a town that is within a UNESCO biosphere and I've said many times that the only reason I might wish to receive immense wealth would be to buy back all the land from the cottagers and let it run wild. Tourism and thinking strictly of the economy ruins what is naturally beautiful about the world. I'm not sure why you're so fond of this area if you are so intent on driving all over it.

Looked more like healthy discussion than trolling to me. Every issue has two sides.

    More panty bunching...

My post was simple...let me break it down for you guys. I get told to "watch it" and "keep my opinion to myself" all the time in the FS threads because my opinion doesnt match that threads' OP's opinion on what his shit is worth, simply bc I did not share the OP's opinion. On several occassions I have been told that response like that must only be sent in PM. I am merely sharing my opinion and helping ground some people on this site in reality, I have been thanked numerous times by would be buyers who got a fair price thanks to me. I have also gotten bad rep from some buyers who are just trying to rip people off too. Boo hoo

Well this OP is entitled to his opinion as well. As are you. Just dont shit up his thread. Start your own "lock down the beaches" or "save the fuckin birds" thread.

These action just seem very hypocritical to me. If you want to preserve someones (OP) opinion in another thread, why dont you work just as hard to preserve this OP's opinion/thread?

So my point is, allow opinions to be shared fairly in all aspects of this forum, just as you are enjoying the priveledge of doing so yourselves right now. But if you are going to coddle some peoples threads, then it should be done for all, and led by example byt the moderation staff. Basically dont shit in someone elses thread and then try to internet spank me for doing the same.

    :steps down from soapbox:

    Thx

more like going out of business. op does have a hard time debating this, as do I

    GTFO :(

 I'd say there were just making a living and keeping that place beautiful for the last 400yrs.

I do respect the NPS and this debate but some of the action taken down there doesn't make sense to everybody. We're not talking about more building down there, just access.

And asking $17k for a truck worth $6 is FAIL in my book too, but I get in trouble if I tell them that...or asked to leave the thread by mods.

And you are entitled to your opinion. I have never been to Cape Hattaras, but I think it should still be free for when I do go.

Thats part of the problem with this country...the people that already pay for their shit have to keep paying more and more for the same rights. The people who dont pay for anything and drain this fucking country keep getting everything free.

If they started taxing all the fucking welfare checks sent out monthly, there would be enough revenue that places like this wouldnt have to charge to provide the services to the park. Or better yet...stop sending the checks out all together and let them starve.

No hate here. I just found this thread this morning. I just feel if mods dont want us shitting is peoples threads, then they should refrain themselves as well.

The op didnt ask for opinions, he stated his (that may be kinda out there) and asked for support.

Simple. Either support him and his efforts or move on.
