Would there be any interest in a How-to for replacing carpet in a 1st Gen DC Tacoma?

I just finished a complete carpet replacement on my 2003 DC Tacoma and took some pics along the way. Just seeing if anyone else would be interested in a How-To for this or not. Just a thought let me know.

Absolutely. I just had the TSB completed regarding the firewall leak and I fear that my passenger side carpet is shot. It's holding out, but I don't know how long it's going to last.

 

Interested....and will dealerships do the firewall leak for free?

 

Yes, that is on my list! of things to do, too dirty to try to steam clean.

 

My carpet is dirty and I've been wanting to do something with it... Possibly thinking about just bed-lining my cab... LOL

 

^After getting a very good look at the floor pan and what exactly is attached to it, there are just too many nooks and holes to fill, too many harnesses and wires running underneath, and the factory sound dampening material would be nearly impossible to remove as it was hard to the touch, and all over the place. I mean I guess anything would be possible, but still with all of what's going on honestly it wouldn't look good.

 

Here are two teaser pics. I am putting the finishing touches on tonight, but I went with a custom Graphite color which is much darker than the OEM gray, but lighter than black. I also went ahead and installed Dynamat on the floor pan while I had the carpet out.

I always wanted to bedline the cab, but like you said, I realized when pulling up the stock carpet to check it out that there is just way too many valleys and divots that would need to be filled in, let alone all the wiring that is under the carpet.

 

I just finished doing my 03 DC about 2 weeks ago, I also Dynamat Extreme the entire cab, the hardest part was doing the Dynamat because it just takes alot of time to roll and heat into place.. suggestion: if you Dynamat the cab, don't forget to do the Doors, this is were most of the sound comes into the cab.

 

I didn't do the doors, but good thing is I can do each door at a time and not have to gut the entire truck. My main goal was to replace the worn, stained carpet from the previous owner, and make it look and feel fresh and clean, and dampen the road and wind noise. Overall just wanted to make everything more comfortable. Just because I have a 9 year old truck doesn't mean it needs to feel like one.

It's all good! This is a forum for our trucks so if you have a process/repair to do and it hasn't been addressed before then go for it! Even if it's not a sticky, people can search for it and you can throw a link in your sig. As an example, I made a grille swap thread. While it doesn't get bumped very often, I have gotten many PM's from others with questions/looking for advice on my work. People will use it!

On another note, that would be sweet for me to know, since I have thought about removing carpet and bedlining the footwells before. Maybe even rplacing the carpet with something more durable and that takes water better. It'd be sweet to see what kind of a process that entails.

 

Also details on where you got the carpet, the fitting process, and how much $$
