clicking noise when turnin and braking

I just niticed that when i turn the wheel in a complete lock there is a loud clicking noise and when im in reverse and push on the brake there is also a lound cliking noise the same when in in drive and push on the brake. I notice it more when i an parking. Any toughts on what this might be?

 

If it is just when at full lock, it is probably the steering stops. When I took mine into the dealer about this they just greased the stops and it hasn't made a noise since.


PS: had this done 23000 mile ago. and still no noise from it.

 

I tought of that but the noise happens befor it comes to a full lock

 

Does it do it if the wheels are not turned and you hit the brakes?

 

No it only does it when im turning the wheels and hitting the brakes at the same time if the truck is in park and i turn the wheels it turns fine

 

It might just be the pads moving a little bit. Its normal for the pads to move slightly.

 

I dont know its a loud noise i havent herd it before even when im parking i revers hit the brake then click i move forward hit the brake then an even louder click i hear it even with the radio on. Tomorrow im going to take a closer look see if i can figure out where its comming from.

 

if its clunking its probably your ball joints

 

jack the truck up and rock the tire, see if it moves back and fourth, thats how you know its your ball joints.

Don't know if you have figured this out yet, but it sounds like an issue that I had in the past. If it truely is a "clicking sound" as you stated, there's a good chance it might be the same. If you were to remove your front bumper skin, you would find the front bumper bar. It is a boxed alluminum tube, that is bolted to (2) alluminum mounts, that are in turn bolted to the frame horns. In my case, after an extensive process of elimination; I discovered that the "clicking" eminated from one of the alluminum mounts. These mounts are also a boxed tube, with plates welded onto the ends for flanges. Where I found the issue was the boxed tube portion, as it is not monolithic; rather it is multiple plates welded together to form the box shape. One or more of the welds had likely cracked, though not visibly; probably brought on by flexing of the frame. I confirmed my theory by removing the entire front bumper assembly and driving the truck, performing various stops and turns, etc. I was fortunate to have come across a set destined for the recycling heap and have never heard this again.
As I have written this and reflected back, I have become even more sure that this is likely your issue, based upon your description. I remember how frustrating that had become and how I had begun to hate my truck for a time.

If it is mainly while turning, full lock or not, and if it sounds like it's coming from the rear then it could be a chipped tooth on the ring gear. If that's the case you should get it looked at before more damage is done. Just one chipped tooth will cause the whole rear end to grenade (called that because when you open the rear end that's what looks like what happend) and you end up having to replace the whole rear end axels and all. If you catch it before that happens you can usually just replace the ring and pinion.

 

Right there with you guys. The click is off the bumper "frame" welds, or lack there of. The dealer was oblivious, but after insisting, there was a TSB found. I was way out of warranty though. Pull off the plastic, and Frame. Take the frame, reinforce weld, and re-install. The TSB indicates two frame blocks as a fix for 230 apiece. Whatever the case, it is in the bumper area, and is brought on by frame/bumper flex. It is not suspension, or brake pads and will resonate from the radiator/bumper area only.

I'm getting a clank/clack/click (or whatever) in my front end as well. A few weeks ago I installed ToyTec's ultimate lift coil-overs, Light Racing UCAs, new outer tie rod ends, and new lower ball joints all at the same time. The clacking initially began only in the front left. I'd hear a thunk when turning the wheel from the right to the left as the weight of the truck shifted from one side to the other. Now, after a couple weeks, the clanking is in both sides and is getting louder/worse. I initially thought the brake pads were slapping around due to slack/play as the pads are wearing down. However, it didn't start doing this until after the lift. It's only present at low speeds (i.e. when pulling into/out of my driveway or parking spaces, and when doing low-speed turns).

I'm thinking I either messed up the CVs in my front drive shafts or the new lower ball joints (Moog) are bad. Although I doubt it, should I be looking at my front bumper mounts as noted in this thread?

 

Do you still have your sway bar installed? That may be the thud when parked and not moving while turning the wheel? Or its your CVs. I have the same thing going on, just a metal to metal click at moving speed in the front on/near the bumper. I am clueless to the source still. Good luck
