I hate apartment complex living

I'm in grad school and work full time as the lead maintenance tech for the apartments I live in. Being that its ECU and its summer these kids are ridiculous and I live right beside the pool so I'm sure its drunken douche bags leaving there but still why do people act this way? Does it really improve your self esteem to tear up other peoples property?

Just wanted to rant in the past 3 weeks I've had 4 dents put in my tail gate and today I walk outside to find my toyota emblem missing off the front of my truck.

3 years ago I had my 600rr stolen from the lot (I know it was stupid) but I had it parked in front of my suv and chained to the tire rack on the back. Also had a scorpio alarm but it wasn't set because I lost the fob on a ride a week earlier. Got it back 1.5 years later the idiot was riding it with the stolen plate still on it other than beat up and no ignition it was in good shape for being stolen.

Get a camera, catch the bastards that are fucking with your truck, have them evicted.

I know but I work here so I live free in a two bedroom single level so no upstairs neighbors and my roommates are two friends who also work here (one is my boss) and they are married. The other apt for staff is mine next and its a single bedroom set to be open in 3 months. Can't beat no rent, no utilities, no cable or internet bill. I might need to invest in a pod or something to use as a garage if this keeps up though.

 

We've had a rash of vehicle's being broken into and one guys 94 Yota was stolen right from our lot at work. It sucks so I know how you feel, sort of. Can't even just go to work w/o worrying about your stuff. I know it must be worse being at your residence.

 

^yea the worst is my truck wasn't alone for 45 mins I was just looking at the wheel problem I'm having came in to post and get a camera and went back out to find the emblem gone

 

a video system would seem to solve all your problems. have the complex buy it as a safety measure. they are not all that much money.

Me and my family just moved out of a complex to the country. Right back to the exact spot I spent the first 18 years of my life. At the complex in two weeks time my wifes suburban was broke into, I filled my tow truck up and the next mornin it was on empty. And somebody tried to get in my tool boxes

I know how you feel because let me tell you the yankees up here are either rude or nuts. first of all you need to get a good ol wood baseball bat, and then get them thinking you are crazy, I always shift my hours and if its nice out me and my bat will go out for a walk. One reason I have my truck, is street parking. and I dont know which Majic school for the mental retards kids get there license from, in my day we would say Kmart, but that is too good, people have no sense and one today parked a ol saturn with the low noise under my rear bumper and they had 4 feet to there rear before the yellow. sorry, and i did it loud so everyone could hear, i put it in reverse and before i had the clutch all the way out, crunch! and I was not straining my power steering, so there were 3 more loud crunches. my girlfriend just shook her head, and said I know, you dont give a damn!
and play dirty, almost 2 years ago, and me and my stang were on our last legs, (I almost died) and I have a long all day doctors appt. i got to my car and some POSf in a purple chevy parked touching my bumper and someone in a caddy parked way back from the curb in my front, and to make it so stupid the chevy has half in a normal area and half, and it was half in a marked handicapped only place with required sticker. some kids came by and wondered what was i doing to do, and i told them its easy, call some friends, i got the car warmed up and i burnt rubber forward and reverse, and i pushed that chevy back AND OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET, kids were laughing like hell, then I called the police and said some drunk man just came by here and his car stalled in the street and he staggered out and left it here. and its blocking traffic, have a good day! and I have yet to see that POS again.

and that is one reason as I get some extra cash I am going to do battleship steel bumpers. and I am not going to waste them on rocks.

Pirates (shitty ass) Cove. The fact that we are one of the cheaper large complexes means we attract a very diverse crowd all of which think they are buying the ritz for $350 flat a month (includes cable utilites internet.) Not to mention the people who built this place were drunk (really all kinds of empties in the walls and crawls) so we have our work cut out already with 1,056 beds or 264 full sets of appliances (washer, dryer, dishwasher, fridge, range) and only 3 full time maint. I average about 25-30 work orders a day and I try to be as polite and helpful as I can just because I know how people are, but I think whoever is messing with my truck is just doing it because they are walking home drunk and its in their path.

RobetG... I'd take your advice but being that everyone around here knows me I'd be signing a death warrant for my truck if anyone else sees me screwing with someones stuff. Plus they might think thats grounds for firing.

 

I have 2 unknown neighbors in my apartment building helping a co-worker's jealous wife stalk me (to be fair to them they probably don't know they are helping her be a stalker. I'm sure she didn't tell them the actual story).

And I'm looking for a new apartment.

Welcome to apartment management. After grad school and some post-grad work I decided to study some philosophy and went back to my old undergrad alma mater. I thought that a "free" apartment for being a night and maintenance manager sounded like just the ticket to save me some money.

Mostly it was OK for a year or two and the normally crappy tenants could be dealt with but then the owner of the apartment complex between two of mine decided to turn it into low-income housing. Almost overnight, what once had been a reasonably nice area of a college town began to look like the inner-city streets of the city fifty miles away where I once worked as a paramedic.

The crime soon sloughed over into my complex and it got so bad that the owner and I met with the local crime task force and DEA at the apartments to see if something could be done. LOL, after seeing me talking to the task force agents the tenants of the low income housing must have thought I was police too because after that when I'd walk past there on the way to the other complex I managed I'd hear "It's the man" and see people running into their apartments. I mentioned this to our postman one day and he laughed and said, "I don't think they're too bright because they hide from me too when I'm in my postal uniform."

I moved not long after that but came back a year later to visit and the street was overgrown and covered with trash and broken-down cars. A few years later though after they had closed down the low-income housing and re-opened it as regular housing I passed through the neighborhood and it didn't look too bad.

 

Ya. There are some trashy losers at my apartment building. I needed a cheap place to live quickly, but I guess you get what you pay for.

Honestly, paying an extra $200/month is worth it to me, my lease is up in June but I'm pretty much to the point of breaking it to get out of here.

Heh. My apartment is directly across the hall from the laundry. In fact, the laundry is really just in a wide part of the hallway. Did some laundry, just tossed it in the dryer 5 minutes ago. Someone actually just came downstairs and stopped my dryer. I heard them on the stairs looked through the peephole to see who was out there. Sure enough, this dude opened my dryer door and headed back upstairs.

And so, my guerrilla warfare is on. Stage 1: Laundry Sabotage. Dirty oilfield clothing, meet clean community washers. Good luck getting that smell out. Seems kinda harsh but there aren't that many people in the building and I've had problems with all of them now. Normally that is a clue to double check myself, and I have. But now I give up; I think there really are just a whole bunch of idiots in the building.
