I would like to lock the front of my truck but was wondering if having the the front locked full time will mess with the on-road handling of my truck.

I would imagine that would be terrible for on-road driving...Why would you want it locked full time? What about an ARB air locker or something like it so you can switch it on only when needed?

You absolutely & positively CAN NOT put a fulltime locker in the front!!!!

You won't be able to turn!!!!!!

In a stock truck, have you ever attempted at making turns while in 4WD?? <--- without being locked?

Too tight of a turn and the truck bucks, jerks, and jumps. You can actually break CV joints if you do that too often.

You best option ...is an ARB selectable locker. Or some sort of limited slip....but even that can inhibit drivability.

He may be talking Auto locker/lunchbox such as Lockright. Which you CAN run in the front for on road as long as you don't drive like a idiot.

I would get a lockright if I lived in the flat lands. But up in the mountains where it snows and we have ice on the roads I wouldn't dream of a DD with a auto locker. LSD or cough up the cash for a ARB.

You mean Full Time in the dirt only, right? You cannot or need not use 4WD on pavement... steering is hard enough and not suggested in 4WD on dry pavement.. but if you are locked, you won't be turning very well at all!

A locker (front or rear) is for difficult off road conditions like steep and rocky grades when one of the tires leaves the ground. Rear lockers have the most function with least steering issues, so get the rear locked first, then see if you ever do off roading where a front locker is 'needed'. They ain't cheap, afterall.

    ^ HAHAHA :D

Listen to these other guys, do not go with a full time locker in the front. The only time people use a full time (spool or lincoln) locker in the front is if it is a trail only rig. But most people still prefer selectable lockers for the front, even on the dedicated trailer only rigs! The main problem is all the different components that are in the front are not strong enough for the forces exerted on them when turning with a locker.

Thanks for the replies guys. When i say a full time locker i don't mean i will keep it in 4wd at all times oi was just wanting to know if it would bind when i turn not in 4wd. when i said LSD i mean limited slip locker so it just kicks in when i need it. btw i don't no about you guys but i don't have 1500 to drop at any given time for a arb. would love to have one though

It doesn't matter if you're in 4WD or not.

The axle shafts (at the front wheels) are turning all the time (unless you have manual locking hubs) - they're just not 'driven'. Since the front differential is OPEN, it allows the front wheels to turn at their own rates when in turns.

If you put a full-time locker in the front - the front wheels will go at the same speed/distance at ALL TIMES even in turns and even in 2WD. Not only that....but I'm pretty sure, this will force your front driveshaft (propeller shaft) to turn at all times even while in 2WD.
