Hahaha, that is the best bottom line. But damn, I never look at bikes as model years...they're just bikes. Makes mine seem old, time for a new one!

Toytec ultimate lift kit, light racing UCAs, ARB bumper and full skid plates underneath. Looking into redoing the suspension and maybe repainting the ol' Taco.

Typically something changes from year to year. Either there is a cmall change in geometry of the frame, or the components will change some. Either way, the changes tend to me small, but can be important. But most importantly, the price of a previous year model will be much less, which is very nice.

    ????????????????

    lol. you said hard on.

Maybe all this purpose built shit is why I have 12 bikes? Yeah that's a good reason. I'm gonna go with that. :D

LMAO at comments about dept store bikes! I don't care if the best tech in the country put the POS together, you're pissing money down the drain if you ever wanna do anything other than go around the block on sidewalks. That shit won't last 2 weeks on any light to moderate trails without coming apart & LOL at pushin around a 35lb POS on hills & shit. If you are gonna ride with any regularity & gusto then learn how to build them yourself, order parts online & spec up your own shit for what you will be doing & have shit that lasts you forever if you don't hit trees or get hit by cars or fall off cliffs. The only thing I would ever condone at a bike shop is buying a whole bike, then upgrade the chimpy parts yourself from online. Bike shops are just like car dealers when it comes to parts/service so beware. Become self reliant, it's a bicycle for god's sake. If you can build a wheel then anything else can be done with right tools of course. Rebuilding suspension forks is easier than wheelbuilding, especially some of the crazy lacing patterns. Fun shit tho, love ridin, love wrenchin..........

What a load of BS. Bike shops are nothing like dealerships. How often do you go to your Toyota dealer and hang out with the mechanic. How often has your Toyota mechanic showed you how to change a flat tire? How often do you think the Toyota mechanic notices other problems and does just a quick fix?

Furthermore, bike shops aren't just about bicycles. This is a great starting point for meeting fellow cyclists in your area and learning about trails. People work in bike shops because they love cyclingand the culture, not because they love the money. Those prices that you think are outrageous are anything but. I can "wholesale" order some Shimano parts from the bike shop catalogs and pay about the same as I would if I were to order through pricepoint.

My point being, support your local bike shop. Pay them that extra 3$ for a bike seat or .50 for an inner tube. If your shop closes, who is going to install that part you ordered online when you realize you don't know what you're doing?

Nope, don't hang out with the toyota mechanic & don't need them to show me what's wrong with my truck. If it goes there I already know why. Not speaking from "starting point" status. Been into bikes for over 40 yrs. I don't need any bike shop to show me how to fix anything about a bicycle. Some may be better than others about prices & some may be gathering points & that's great but not the norm just like there are a few less than scumbag dealerships.....somewhere. Bike shop folks can order all kinda stuff at wholesale & lots can't order stuff I've been after like a nexus generator hub for a cruiser because they were never sold here in USA. Didn't stop my bike from havin it. Sorry if I touched a nerve about bike shops but I was much more use to them than they were to me before I started sourcing my own parts from wherever had them to begin with & whoever had best price & they all show up at the door without scavenger hunts around the whole region. All the bike store was doin was orderin the same part & charging me extra for them to do it. Why bother? Their markup more than covers shipping costs so big deal. I've always done all my own wrenchin so not needin that. I'm not arguing the need for shops, lots of people are clueless about their bikes or just don't wanna do for themselves & need all the help they can buy. You can still go & do all the things you speak of without a shop being responsible for it too. A lot of shops are snooty know it all elitist actin asswipes & those are givin the ones you're speaking of a bad name. My point being, support yourself & learn about things you're interested in & not be at others' mercy moneywise, timewise or knowledgewise.

Good temporarily, not too good for the long term or too many trails. ;)
Hopefully it'll get a nice price on craigslist in a few weeks or so.

I just bought an 2001 model of the giant yukon for my buddy to use. I took it out for a test ride and one of the front brakes came loose and fell off about 5 miles into the trail. Needed a tune up and new brakes anyways.

Actually Jeff It is really good on trails..... I took it on a bunch today. It would be ALOT better though if it had Fox components and a back disc brake

    Its a bicycle.
yeah, the breaking when it shouldnt and shattering some of your bones is what he's referancing.

    not handling!

and fox doesnt make "components" per se, just suspension(components for me always meant drivetrain parts.)

and a wal-mart type bike doesnt compare in comfort.

a BUTTERY, WONDERFUL fox (air) Forx

beats the tar out of an elastomer sprung SR suntour.

I've rebuilt both by the way... suntours are easy. just bolts, rubber, and the occaisional spring.

    the fox was intimidating.

heck, half the reason i ride bikes is to fix them!

I never see the point to it having only a front disc brake...like if it's gonna be there why half-ass it? Any bike is good on the trails with the right tires and full suspension. It's just a matter of quality. Speaking of quality I gotta get my fat ass back out on a trail and put some more air in my suspension. :D
If you want some Fox shocks, check my gallery. That should definitely hold you over. ;)

I think I need some derailleurs before I can do hard riding though, anybody know of good deals on Shimano Deore XTR rear derailleurs???
