Is there a way to unbrick a iPhone? And is there a jailbreak for the 5.0.1

I think Apple has a recall on some of the charger models with replacement.

Yea, I know. Firefox and Chrome are both better but I feel like Safari flows better.. I'll see if I can clear everything out.

I unbricked a friend's iPad doing this. It's worth a shot. Just make sure you plug your iPhone into a computer and open iTunes before you do any of this.

For about 7 seconds keep the “power/lock’ button (top of the phone) and the “home” button pressed – until the iPhone screen goes black.
Keep them pressed for an extra 2 seconds, then release the “power/lock’ button
iTunes will then see the the iPhone after about 10 seconds. Now you release the “home” button.
The iPhone is now in DFU mode.
You can now reformat the iPhone by reloading everything.

Edit: You might have to have the latest version of iTunes downloaded as well.

I'm on 5.0.1 jailbroken. Not sure what you mean by "unbrick" - from all I've gleaned, it's basically impossible to truly brick an iPhone... Just restore it.

Bleh. There's nothing else to clear out...? If the other browsers are OK, then it has to be something environmental with Safari (captain obvious, I know...)

Sorry man, like I said I don't use Safari. I tried it a few times, not for moi.

Couldn't you just reset it? I thought someone listed the process above....

Dunno, I'm not sure what led up to the phone getting stuck at the boot screen. You don't seem too concerned about it :p.

I have a early 2011 MacBook Pro i5 2.3 with 4Gb of Ram, the 2x 2Gb sticks. I want to upgrade to more and was just going to go to 2x 4Gb but saw that the laptop can handle up to 16Gb of Ram, but costs $180+ for 2x 8Gb sticks. I did see a few places doing 12Gb kits of 1x 8Gb + 1x4Gb, I am wondering how good of an idea is it to mix an match like that. And to extend that even more, what if I was to just get 1x 8Gb stick for $65 for a total of 10Gbs and then upgrade to the full 16Gb sometime later, or should I just stick with the matched pair and do 8Gbs?

I may be a bit out of touch with current stuff, but my understanding is this:

In the past, mixing and matching RAM was fine, provided everything was the same clock speed (PC800 for example).

Now, your motherboard and RAM is set up for dual channel use, which is why you see 'pair' kits. You can either run a single stick in channel, or you can pair things up, in which you will need matching size and speed due to the communication between the two sticks.

In desktops, you will commonly see 4 slots, meaning two paired channels. In a laptop, you get a single paired channel.

Also consider that component prices sort of follow an inverted bell curve for pricing over time. Latest and greatest is expensive, but over time it gets stupid cheap. Eventually, once your products fall out of mass production, you will see the prices rise BEYOND the cost of newer, faster RAM.

Dear Apple Nerd: I'm looking for the name of a popular app for highlighting passages and taking notes in ebooks. iAnnotate PDF is the one I've found. Are there others? Do tell. Appreciate any help.

I have a 2002 Powerbook G4 which has taken a crap. There is a bunch of stuff on the hard drive that I don’t want to lose. Anyone know what type of external enclosure I need to get to hold it and allow me to access the content via USB?

    It’s an IBM Travelstar 20GB ATA/IDE, Model # DJSA-220

I'd say your answer is right there.

You need an IDE enclosure. It's a 2.5" drive FYI.

    http://www.amazon.com/External-Enclosure-Case-Blue-Laptop/dp/B000FNBYKW - $5.

What do you guys use for off site storage ?? Which site is best and why ?? ...

Example: To store ALL of my goodies from several Apple laptops and iPhones (for when they eventually crash).

    Thanks ... :D
