Another AAL ?

I bought my 05 taco in Oct and according to the dealership's online service record it has the tsb leaf pack and an aal installed, but it doesn't say what aal or what size. Is there anyway to tell about how tall my aal is? After measuring the hub to fender height I think I have about 2.25" of lift in the rear and was hoping get up to 3" to fit some 33's better. After reading up on stuff I would rather not use a block, so I was thinking that maybe if it was a short aal and I could add a taller one.

Yep looks like you have a TSB and an AAL. Not sure about adding another one, never seen something like this. Ever think of replacing the whole leafpack?

I didn't mean to add another aal. I meant to swap it out with a taller aal.

Full replacement is a bit more than I would like to spend...

 

Ahh I gotcha. I'm unsure on how to know wether it's a 1.5" AAL or the 2" because they both settle over time.

 

How long would it take to settle? I don't think it has even been in there a year.

 

Depends on how you use your truck. Not sure how to tell the difference between the 2 AAL's anyway

 

That's what my problem was too. and it has been used very little. 2005 with less that 14500 miles on it.

 

Its probably settled! And the difference between the 1.5 and 2 inch AAL from toytec is the length of them, however I would not suggest adding another AAL, just bc it is probably just a temporary fix to help your leaf pack out, so i'd go with a whole new leaf pack. However, you said that you were looking to fit 33's, and plenty of guys run 33's with only 2inches of rear lift! so you should have plenty of space already and shouldnt need another leaf or pack

Edit: Also, you have a tsb leaf pack so that is probably a 1.5inch AAL

 

What do you think about just sticking a 1" block on there? I know I read that it has some downsides but I image that is more so on the 3+" blocks. A 1" shouldn't be so bad would it?

 

I would just avoid blocks at all costs. A block is the quickest way to kill your leaf pack. What is your front setup and what size tires are you looking at running?

 

The front has adjustable 5100's. They are currently set at. 85 with i believe the stock trd springs. I am going to swap them out with ome 885's or 886's set at 0, so it will support a cbi bumper and winch. I am also getting some LR UCA's when i get the springs.

I am hoping to put 255/85 R16's.

After reading around some more, and since this thread pretty much came to the conclusion that it is my only option, I am actually leaning towards the All-pro standard leaf packs. I guess I should have asked this in the first place, but can the 5100's handle a full 3 inches of lift without problems of over extending? And what do you guys think of the all-pro standards vs expedition vs the dakars? After reading around I am leaning towards the all-pro standards, since I don't tow or haul much.

 

As for the tire size....those should fit just fine! As for the 5100s...I know you can get extended length ones that are made for lifted trucks...check out Down South Motorsports, theyll have what you need. And as for the leaf packs, i have no experience with any of them so hopefully somebody else will chime in!

 

I thought all 5100's were considered extended length. I never really found anywhere that listed 2 kinds of 5100's.

EDIT: So after looking at them on some websites, downsouth is the only one that has 2 versions of the rear 5100's. I'll bet I have the shorter one, (the model # on the shocks has been painted over) and it says it is good for up to 2 inches of lift. I'm sitting at about 2.25" right now think 3 will be a problem or should i get some longer 5125's?

Why are the rear 5100's more expensive than the 5125's and the 5150's on DSM?

Could i jack up one side of my pickup from the frame or flex it real good and measure how long my rear shocks extend to figure out which bilsteins i have or would they not extend all the way?

 

You've exhausted my knowledge. You might want to look around the suspension forums for the answers you are looking for, and/or create a new thread containing your questions with shock lengths! Good luck
