some are not that light mine ladder stand weighs 855 pounds so if it fell over on one of the bolts or nuts it might put a hole in the bed.

That's the first time I've ever seen or heard of a composite bed failing. Go back to the dealer for sure.

Mine has seen many heavy pallets with a few nails here and there. No damage. I'm assuming it would be a defect? Id make em fix it.

granted, mine is brand new. But, I never second guess throwing things in the back the same way id throw them into the 88 f250

my salesman told me i could drop a cinder block from 10 ft into the bed @ 20 degrees outside and the block would just bounce off and not hurt anything

Honestly, I'd be surprised if the dealership doesn't just tell you to go pound sand. How are they to know what you did or didnt do to your truck bed? You can tell them anything you want or even go in with a printout of this whole thread. Proves nothing. You're going to walk in, have a service manager go out and show him/her a hole in your composite bed caused by something you put into the bed. I guess it's worth a shot, but if they spend more than 5 mins talking to you I'd be very surprised. Good luck though.

This may not matter in your case, but my bed got about a 2 inch crack right near the tailgate when it ran into the cab during my wreck, and the dealer replaced it. Body shop tech told me it can't be repaired. I'm sure you can "repair" it somehow, but I guess they're saying it can't be fixed the way body panels can, etc.

they might also come up with some elaborate story on why they won't fix it under warranty - and tell you to secure all loads in the bed - it has gotten very difficult to get warranty repairs done - at least around here

took me 9 months of back and forth to get them to replace peeling/faded headlights under warranty because they wanted to polish them first
i told them that polishing faded/peeling headlights lasts 6 months tops and i will have to go through the same deal again

now 5 months later they are finally changing them out under warranty -
all this work and headache could have saved them money by just changing it in the first place

Might want to consider contacting Toyota and getting the area rep to come out and show them - they seem to have more say in the warranty repair/replace desicion

Stay on them and they should help you out!

I had a 4 cylinder engine block that had head studs in my 1st gen I had to panic stop and it looked like some one was using the truck for target practice with a 45 so steel is not the answer either.

really... a shovel?? maybe if you shoot it out of a cannon. these beds are pretty solid. never second guess it and use it just like a metal bed...but better, no rust

Yea I saw it was 4 years past. Just thought it was funny that someone would freak out over a shovel.
